What This Bill Would Do
Pennsylvania state agencies are required to track incarcerated veterans and encourage voter registration among veterans under a new bill amending Titles 51 and 61. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs must contact veterans listed as incarcerated before release, and the Department of Corrections must transmit names and addresses of confined veterans to county directors of veterans affairs at least 30 days prior to discharge.
Incarcerated veterans nearing release will receive direct voter registration outreach, and county directors of veterans affairs will obtain their contact information in advance to assist with reintegration and civic participation.
