The marker will be located at the entrance of our new Saint Pete pier. Next to our large Oregon. The pelicans sculpture I recently saw photo from want to talk about who's spray paint muralists entitled door to St. Petersburg I appreciate his artistic talent and proficiency and I think he created an excellent portrayal of St. Petersburg in commemoration of our 60th anniversary as sister cities. I believe that the new talk mural complements the mural that was painted here in St. Petersburg by our most recent student ambassadors in Saint Pete we also pay tribute to talk in Japan through our popular koi pond at Saint Pete's beautiful sunken gardens. Visitors are educated about the importance of koi fish and Japanese culture where coy are a symbol of luck prosperity and good fortune and creative play a wonderful organization in St. Petersburg that helps people with disabilities achieve full and inclusive lives through access to the art has artwork on its way to a sister city our show and talk about it. Through student exchanges, both in-person or virtual through all the wonderful things talk about who has done to celebrate this relationship such as their 60th anniversary sushi roll to the gifts we exchange. It is clear that this relationship is healthy and strong. I want to invite meroni she and the citizens of talk about too to visit St. Petersburg as soon as conditions permit. I'm hopeful that will be soon until then our sister city relationship we'll continue to endure is an example of friendship, peace and prosperity. >> It's the council mayor mayor kriseman we we have a couple speaker speak before of the counsel general. Kathy Michael's the chair of the talk about sees St. Petersburg city 60th anniversary task force right. Probably as many of you know that several years ago this city contracted with spirits handle sister city manners and we of course we've got 4 sister cities talk about who's been 60 years the other when the little bit less. It has been a great pleasure to work with the task force summer here. They worked really hard we met on zoom every month since JANUARY and it's been a great wonderful pleasure. The we're very very honored to have a Us Council general that I hear it was very wonderful. He just arrived in the country in the middle SEPTEMBER so it's kind of a last minute thing but we are just very honored to have him and his companions here with us today this wonderful. Theo I'd like to we have several programs that are going on for a long time one of the most important and really delightful relations have since been sending students to talk about tonight served on the Sixers, a sister city relations are Committee for several years and I heard your stories from the students and knew how well they are treating talking Matsui I also been to talk about it twice and gotten had the most wonderful hospitality there so I don't really done this out of appreciation to talk them out and also to St. Petersburg where we lived for many years. The next speaker Eileen unfortunately cannot be with us but our next speaker issues. She's I'm sorry is is part of the college Saf she's professor of Japanese and she die Eileen, Michael's a Duchy and she's taught Japanese for many years and she also keeps in contact almost constantly with talk of Matson she's going to tell you about the wonderful 55, your relationship between our city for college after that will shed is going to speak and he in 2016 was a student ambassador to talk about Sue and he's going to share some of his experiences with you thank you so much. Thank you thank you. Better than looking at me. But I don't know how to make Howard, this is. A minute which way. So first I'd like to thank you. There kriseman and the City Council for inviting me to talk could colleges relationship with the city of talk about it. With this we are celebrating actually our 55th anniversary this go quickly because they brought pictures easier for you Kurd was established in 1958 little pr and then actually 4 years later we started our relationship with talking about it. We had a generous donor supplied scholarships for for Japanese to come to St. Petersburg and study for a year at Eckerd college. The 1966. I'm talking about initiated are they cart teacher exchange program, basically it's one way we send a graduate every year and we've been doing that. For 55 years actually covid kind of slowed us down a little But we've had quite a few students go over in the past few years. These are just some of the more recent months. Right now we have Nikki Cronin she's are 51st at the graduate. Usually the student to graduate stay for one year or 2 years. But it due to covid she agreed to say she's still there for years. In 2002 we the college was able to get a grant and we invited for for 4 consecutive years a teacher from the high school. To come and help us with our Japanese program. Food always attract students so we had to the food parties. And then 2011 was very nicely invited well the college was invited and I went on as a St. Petersburg delegation to tap into for the 50th anniversary. And then we were asked host I think there are about 80 citizens from talk about who came. So we gathered all of our students to be volunteers. And we cultural exchange programs. For one day. On 2014. Thank you too. The Talk about some air onishi we're able to start we called the first son Nicky echo project where we take students to do research about environmental issues with professors at Columbia University. Meroni she pushed. How the university to use they're talking about a campus they have campuses in different places. And everyone is very welcoming has been mentioned before no matter where we go. It's your from St. Petersburg and you're from Eckerd and I was taught that one of your graduates. So it's very enjoyable just to to sit there. These are some of the things that our students to cleaning up the beaches, eeg route 8 eel grass. So they would have seats and then of course there are cultural programs. In 2016 with one of those we went to celebrate our 50th anniversary with the teacher extension program and presented a proclamation our resolution to the city of talk about saying that we would like to continue with this relationship that was the deputy mayor. 2017. What prevents us from Kabul University and talk about it came to visit our campus that's our Triton basket that's the only time I ever saw haha question was there when professor can we signed an agreement for exchanging students so that has not have that were made. And so let me or in Japan, a stance very excited to go to University and see our name up Their list. In 2019 before the professors who worked with us received an award from the Japanese government for their promotion of cultural exchange and also they included this a new key project as one of their things self-promotion I don't mean to do just that. I received a report from the college for the same reason for the. Our relationship with talk to my son. Next year we hope to go right now we're planning to take a group of students again to talk about and we help to send a 52nd graduate, so fingers crossed, we're hoping. And that's all I have to say thank you so much for listening. Thank thank you very MISTER Will shed and good afternoon. Thank you Council chair, good afternoon council It is an absolute pleasure to be speaking with you all today and an honor to represent the talk about to Saint Pete ambassador program. It's been about 5 years since I presented in front of Council with my a fellow ambassador Vanessa after our stay and talk about it. After hearing so much about the wonderful connection between our 2 cities today don't think I need to impress much upon you how valuable our partnership is I travel to talk about it between my junior and senior year of high school in JULY of 36. I could still talk to for hours and hours about what I remember from the trip from the graciousness of my host family to be absolutely gorgeous recent gardens. We took a somber day trip to her office about consuming history and tragedy at the nuclear Memorial and Museum. And despite it being summer for me I still attended school for today's going to talk about to take you high school. I'm eating my peers and get to know them better. I remember one guy there who was really into the Beastie Boys and he was a little disappointed, I wasn't familiar with their discography. He was also incredible to meet with nice yet presented with gifts from Saint Pete, a wall at talking about to City Hall and about a program the city was working on with their local business leaders. Mayor Lee Hsien his staff actually push not wearing suits in the summer to save on ac which benefits both the environment and the city's bottom line. I remember telling counseled about that 5 years ago in suggesting we implement that here in Saint Pete, and I think we could pretty clearly still work on it. Coming back I got to attend some of the events with our counterparts from talk about who they want to raise game performed a tea ceremony and got to experience our amazing beaches with their own host families. It was for the talk about the students just as valuable an experience it was for us. Talk about too is an incredible city and the trip in s and I went on was foundational and an educational experience for us. I know that every other ambassador that's come from Saint Pete feels the same way. In a world that just seems to go smaller every day an adventure like I was given can remind you just how big it is I hope that over the coming decades, we can all see this partnership grow evolve and thrive as we send some of our best and brightest across the globe and Sharon city in the process. Thank you. Now it's mighty pleasure to welcome the counsel general. >> And the Chi to a St. Petersburg City Council in our meeting today. I also want to send my a greeting to a mayor and the she in the talk about Sioux City assembly. MISTER McKay is a seasoned diplomat who has served more than 3 decades in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has extensive experience and areas of culture education security disarmament and not a little like for him proliferation immediately prior to his appointment to Florida MISTER McKay held the post of minister and deputy chief of missions. Thank you very much. >> City Council is going to take a 10 minute recess. >> Going bring in a city Council meeting back to order and will recognize mayor kriseman. Thank you MISTER Chair, members of City Council. Today I have the great privilege of honoring a great person. My friend meeting Smith. I was recap all of meetings accomplishments. All that makes her worthy of a key to the city. We would need to schedule a separate committee of the whole. So I'll use my few minutes here wisely. I want to begin by highlighting not her professional accomplishments, but my favorite thing about her. She's a resident of the sunshine fit. She's the executive director of equality Florida and she lives right. Makes us a better city. We are so glad to have an 18 Andrea and Logan in our community. Donating was a journalist and then of course an organizer. Spending the past 30 years fighting for a fairer Florida. Getting good legislation passed the local and state level and stopping really bad ideas and bills from becoming law as best as anyone can given the politics in the state. Maybe was the first openly African American to run for City Council in Tampa. She was one of the leaders in the 1993 MARCH on Washington. And a part of the historic meeting between PRESIDENT Clinton and lgbtq leaders. She became a trustee with the Florida chamber Foundation and has worked to make the private sector better, more diverse. More welcoming. She has been named one of Florida's most powerful and influential women has received the League of Women voters distinction award and has served on the Florida advisory Committee for the us Commission on civil rights. Like a good organizer Nate in can constructively agitate with the best of them. I'll say something that isn't often said in this chamber, 18 is a badass. But make no mistake. She is a thoughtful deliberate leader. She knows how to build relationships and get things done and she's done it time. And again. And she's unite or maybe none and you have brought our community together during times of national and local crisis. Her work is not done that as my time as mayor comes to an end. I couldn't leave without properly honoring this amazing woman in paying tribute to her work and lgbtq issues and on so many other things and so native. It is my honor. To present you with the key to the city of fun. I thank you so much thank you everybody I really appreciate this so much. Air council members and to my family of live birth and by marriage and my family by choice and through the struggle. It is so good to see your faces in 3 d and not on I am when when the came out that I was getting a key to the city people asked so what what do you get to open you know do you if you keep this in the car and flash if you get pulled over in. I'll let you know if it works but. But I will say that I can't think of a better symbol, a more meaningful symbol to me a key. You know when you give somebody a key to your home you you really telling them they belong you really telling them that their welcome and you know growing up in Florida has not always been a welcoming place for. A black child a female child, a child in in St. Petersburg hasn't always been that welcoming place it has been a place that we have had to to work really hard to carve a. A space of welcome and so I'm just building on the theme our sister city. I think it's important that we judge ourselves by how much we make a stranger feel welcome were all strangers at some point whether it's a a new school or a. A retirement home, a new job. A new city. And how we are welcome to matters and so every time I look at this I will remember the journey that we've taken as a city to become and open and welcoming place for all and to put those values up front. I will remember that at the time of great division where where told to be fearful of those who are different too. Pray differently who think differently who look differently to come from different lands with different languages. It's important that we extend the spirit of pending that key to a stranger and welcome them. And a time when our state Legislature ought to be looking to our cities to replicate that spirit of inclusion I hope that all of understand our obligation to to open that key and hold it out to those who who can easily be fearful of that new place. So I'm proud to be a Floridian I'm proud to be. Part of St. Petersburg and I'm very very proud. My quality Florida family, I'm very very proud of my family, including the patriarch of our family, my father who did not hesitate to ask mayor to move out the ways we can see the video. By my activism honestly. But I thank you all I look forward to continuing this. Thank you. >> Make made enough can congratulations if you can stand there by the podium for will go first to councilmember rights. Thank you. >> Maybe you're an inspiration. >> And a role model to so many and I've had many experiences with you over the last 20 years as an organizer innocent elected official. And one of the things I love about you is that you're such an inspiration to people. >> when they cnn justice. They learn from you and they go and start an organization to fix it. You've built an organization that will carry the torch for equality in progress. Long after you're gone and that's not going happen any time soon. But I think that's the greatest accomplishment of for an organizer and you've achieved that and so much more and just your guidance encouragement and vision it's just it's legendary and like the mayor said. We're so lucky to have you here in Saint Pete. You could not only just be anywhere in Florida. You your national leader you could be anywhere you want to be to continue doing your beautiful work to shine a light in this world and a proud to count you as a friend, your wife, Andrea as a force in our community in her own right making it a better place as for MISTER Logan, I will not be surprised at all to see him doing great things one day. Thank you thank you so much. Thank you Ikea. You can't MISS This opportunity to go my thanks and gratitude as well for your steadfast example the way you up in my eyes intersectional advocacy and activism you're such a wonderful example for so many people and you've been named as one of Florida's most powerful and influential women which is a great honor, but what is that honor unless you're doing something with that power and that influence to help others and you do so every day in transformational ways and our community will forever be grateful. I feel like the mayor awarded a key to everyone who wonders what's possible. In the shaping of our collective consciousness today, and you answer that in a resounding way. Thank you for all that you do. Councilmember Blackmon. Thank you very much You know I'm going to be brief. I don't want to congratulate you want to say thank you. For all that you've done for our community and for the state you really have fought to push the needle. Thank you for making Saint Pete. What it is today, it's because of people like you that city become better for your vision. You know you've got the key to the city. And the doors open. Now we want everybody to feel comfortable you're in. I'm just so thankful for your works over the years and thank you mayor kriseman you've been picking some good people recently so thanks a lot and thank you >> MAY 18 I want to congratulate you on on receiving a key to the city it's the highest honor we can we can give out and you've been a used the word light you provide light to people's lives. You're very eloquent too. You're very you're very good. You choose your words carefully and you represent the city of St. Petersburg very well and you make make us a better place. Congratulations. Council we're going next d 6. Cyber security awareness month presentation. Good afternoon Council. OCTOBER nationally. Is celebrated as cyber security awareness month. And I want to take a few minutes to have a chief information security officer Brian Campbell I talked to Council citizens about some aspects of cyber security in terms of both in personal lives and in the workplace. So like to introduce Brian. Council chair council members mayor deputy mayor, good afternoon, everybody and Council even those leaving. Haha. As you know OCTOBER is cyber security awareness month. And considering that we come before you today with Highland to highlight 3 areas of cyber security concern. Your personal information. Mobile devices and the Internet of things. Any information that is specific to you is considered personal information. Sensitive personal information such as your Social Security number your birth date account numbers your mother's maiden name. As well as inconsequential are seemingly inconsequential personal information such as what flavor of ice cream is your favorite. The fact is that all these pieces of information could be used against you. They can use be used to steal your identity into him personally. And we've seen an uptick in 3 areas. The bad actors are using to attempt to get your personal information, emails phone calls and texting the city cybersecurity awareness training program is heavily emphasized again on the email security and we continually run e-mail phishing tests and I'm sure anybody here and all of you receive them, I'm quite sure you all did very well. Read the skews me rent regarding phone calls. We're conditioned to answer phone calls and we're also condition to answer questions when asked. This can be a very bad combination. When the other person on the end of the phone is a bad actor. My own kitchen area and father recently received such a phone call. He's given me permission to highlight his experience. My father answered the phone. He was greeted with grandpa time in jail and I need you to bail me out and don't tell dad. If your grandson, which one. You know. Well then you know, I'm not bailing you out. It. That's the right way to handle it. Tampa Bay times on Mon. Had an article that was titled after a loss of 700,000 scam 82 Sue's bank. Which is the other side. The negative response to those phone calls. Don't answer any personal questions or give any personal information over the phone. Unless you know the color. No matter how innocent or seemingly how urgent it MAY be. Another area personal information gathering is the Internet. Well it MAY seem and b completely innocent respond your friends facebook post asking you what's your favorite movie of all time. Your answer can be used against you social media sites are the treasure trove a personal information of what he voluntarily post our information. The best practice is to not post any personal information. The various tax are the fastest area of growth and attempted exploits. Please don't reply to text from an unfamiliar sender asking you any questions of any type. And please please please do not click on the links in those text from someone you are unfamiliar with just this past 2 weeks I've received 3 texts that like the highlight. The first one I'm very excited because I want an ipad the other one I get a $150 because look I'm a loyal atnt customer, but I'm not an 18 to customer. And the 3rd one told me I had 3 viruses on my phone that I had to click right now. The bottom line protect your personal information. Mobile devices are gold mine of personal information and a very attractive target for hackers your cell phones, your tablets, those are the most common mobile devices, but there are many others. The best practices for your mobile devices released just the top few is to use a strong password and never use the same password for more than one account we all do it we all know that we have that one passer reused for everything don't do that. And preparation did speak to you today. I did a personal password audit of all of my active accounts. I have over 1190 personal accounts with passwords that are active. Ranging from simple websites email accounts to medical financial research accounts. And most importantly every count does in fact have a separate password and separate and distinct password. If any one of those were hacked just that one account is at risk. And while my returned of memory is good. Remembering over 1100 passwords it's a little bit of a challenge so what we do use a password manager. They were otherwise called the password fall. There are many examples of password managers ranging from free 2 including at of Ayers or is also included or can be available for small upcharge but there are many out there. That being said you also want to avoid using your 4 digit passcode on your phone worst-case no password at all to lock your device. You want to encrypt your device. If it's possible. You also want to set your phone to self-destruct and what that means is after so many password envelop attempts to launch or destroys your phone wipes it out. You also want to make sure that you revoke application permissions that use your camera or your microphone if it's not specific to the application of the person. The what you're trying to lose all use a vpn use a mobile security app many are included now I know speaking of even though not an atnt customer, I know atnt has it as part of their offering now usually 2 factor authentication solution. Bottom line is protect your mobile device. And lastly the Internet of things. Team for those who don't know what that is that's the billions. A physical devices around the world. That are now connected to the Internet. And they're all collecting data and they're all sharing data. Just a few examples that you MAY have your own personal life. Are your smart home devices, one of those light poles. Water you're smart tv's home security cameras garage door openers refrigerators ovens sprinkler systems. Baby cameras and personal devices such as your gps your smart watch. Any physical device can be transformed into an I o t device if it could be connected to the Internet and to be controlled manage or communicate any information and it's good security practice to assume that all smart and 2 devices, Kerry sensitive information that could bring a heavy consequences if hacked. Secure your network secure your passwords and keep your devices patched and up to date which is the most important thing for smart devices. The bottom line protect your Internet of things. This is a quick recap of these 3 areas a cyber security concern, your personal information your mobile devices in your Internet of things. I put together 3 minute 17nd video using some homeland security resources offering some additional tips you would chant. >> I'm Dan Payne deputy director of the National counterintelligence and security center as you are aware there has been a significant compromise of personal information about a large number of current and former government employees, including personally identifiable information. Thank you again for your time in the opportunity percent. Thank thank you very much Brian very very helpful information. Muslim did you have. I think I think I thank you very much. We're going to go d 10 next and we're going to go to open af after that so I'm gonna recognize that councilmember fix Sanders. >> We're so I thank you so much share for acknowledging the the lineup for us I wanted to make sure I get this very important man on his way. But we are here today to recognize MISTER In a Edwards. And you say who is Renee Edwards. Sat. Morning shot is the brainchild of the ceo founder of skin can be in the Tampa Bay Landers. The vision of the shop is to create economic development, opportunities for emerging businesses to our friends growing monthly markets. Renee as passionate about ensuring the development and success of all Sat. Morning shot participants. She founded the Sat. Morning shop Academy to provide business coaching business and acquit resources marketing in licensure that would allow Jaime vendors to grow their businesses and income. Now I'm not going to read the entire for a name. The real reason why I bought Renee here is because we have been in a such limited opportunity. I women and minority owned businesses have not been given the same opportunities to flourish to share their talents and your skills and she took it upon herself after several nos in roadblocks to create this Sat. Morning shop in order to give small business owners. The opportunity to sell their wares just to share exposure. And he started in APRIL with 60 vendors then it jumped to 95. Then it jumped to one 20. And it has been flourishing ever since. I want to announce that she signed a lease to do didn't want to shop in Atlanta. She's done one now in Tampa. And that's all with in APRIL. At least 40 of her vendors have now been formalized 3 or 4. I think are now going into brick and mortar. So she is contributing to a community that need it those opportunities so very badly. But I also want to stand here and think the gentleman that as I was driving down 16th Street. Started her market feel pretty much and invited me to come and see it. I was so impressed. And so touched by her vision. Her passion and her mission to open doors for those who. Formally had no other opportunities. And so I made a phone call. And yes, a check in with little nearby. But I made a phone call. And I wanted to make sure that some of that asphalt that I saw and one of our city's gyms I treasure is that was here for the community that once belong to the community. We utilized by the community. Call bright all. And I said we have some opportunities here. We need to make a difference. We need to share and opportunity for our citizens and our residents to flourish and grow. He did not hesitate as a matter of Fay, I'm a tad bit jealous, because he opened doors and rolled out the red carpet for MISS Edwards and the Sat. Morning shop from that she's has so much coverage. I want to ask MISTER Bryan all from the Tampa Bay rays. Mon dieu I think that to come up as we it was an entrepreneur I g a dreamer. A visionary who is not only benefited from the gratitude and the graciousness of the rays myself the city. But for the mere fact that she brought a lot of people with her. It wasn't a selfless act for It wasn't just an open door for her when she opened a lot of doors for a lot of vendors that I know she has a couple here. I'm gonna stand up. He has some vendors that are here to support her. So you think about that from APRIL of this year, she's gone from the field to the truck to Atlanta to Tampa. Get a feel for where these okay yeah, so it is growing. And it is doing what we need to do. When one door closes another one opens. You can be told no 99 times it only takes that one yes and with that I want to worth and I'm going to let MISTER Bryan all if he also wants to speak. But I want to make sure that he shares in this presentation of the sunshine and bass award for and her efforts. You know they always say you give your flowers. Why you can still smell them, I'm giving you now. And all the other businesses and our host of that have formalized based on your journey. Thank you all so much for this award and I hope to see you guys at the Tropicana field Nov., 6th. It's a free event free parking and a great time I hope to see some. >> I'm sorry I forgot to acknowledge our hand to hand go to MISTER Steven Thomas. With the rays who have also been extremely helpful send of even I want to thank you because again, you know it takes a village. It takes all of us and I'm so appreciative for what we all do together but more importantly when we pay attention to the least of these and we provide opportunity that we fulfill dreams and when we say yes, you really didn't know what you get Well when we say yes and provide that opportunity we're so grateful, so again, thank you so much Brian I really appreciate it. Thank you. >> Congratulations Renee on this well-deserved hard earned honor. We're so proud of in shun as a businesswoman awesome work even able to do since coming to the greenhouse in launching skin candy and doing great things and can't wait to see what's next we know this is only the beginning and our entire economic development team as well as our city stands behind you ready to continue to help make it happen. Congratulations. >> And council member really real bone. Thank you chair. And I thank you so much. Thank you Renee. I just want to k stay at the podium, Renee. Haha. I just want to say thank For that Sat. Morning shop and it shows how greenhouse actually work swing. So one goes through if they're small business owner and now look at you. And she has many things coming down the pipeline. I can tell you stay tuned because up to a 3rd if she is already planning something amazing. For the community, I'm not going to see what it is but she will be I'm sure advertising it I'm sure you will be successful and I just want to thank you, I love you love you too thank you so much.
