Call to Order - Open Session, 6:00 p.m. Type Procedural BACKGROUND : As a condition of receiving certain state textbook funds, Education Code 60119, amended by SB 550 (Ch.900, statutes of 2004: Williams lawsuit) requires governing boards to hold a public hearing on the sufficiency of textbook and instructional materials in specific subjects on or before the eighth week from the first day pupils attend school for that year. The Ed. Code defines "sufficient textbooks or instructional materials" to mean that each student, including each English learner, has a textbook and/or instructional materials to use in class or to take home to complete homework assignments. During the hearing, the Board must make a written determination as to the sufficiency of textbooks or instructional materials in a foreign language and health courses, as well as science laboratory equipment for students in grades 9-12. However, the provision of these materials is not a condition for receipt of state funds. Staff have determined, and visits by the County Superintendent of Schools have verified, that all students have standards-aligned textbooks and instructional materials in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and history/social science, including the English Language Development component for the 2025-2026 school year. Sufficient standards-aligned textbooks and instructional materials are also available in foreign languages, and health courses, as well as science laboratory equipment in grades 9-12. Notice of this public hearing was posted on August 15, 2025, at the District Office Administration Building, the John D. Piazza Education Center, and the Enrollment Center. SUBMITTED BY : Glenn J.
