MINUTES

The City Commission of the City of North Lauderdale met in person on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

The meeting convened at 6:00 P.M. at the City Hall, 701 SW 71st Ave. North Lauderdale, Florida.

CALL TO ORDER: For records, The Honorable Mayor Samson Borgelin was not at the dais to preside the meeting, however he was participating remotely and Vice Mayor Dee Lewis-Ricketts officially called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.

MOMENT OF REFLECTION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE- Commissioner Mario Bustamante led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance

ROLL CALL: The City Clerk performed the Roll Call and confirmed there was a quorum to proceed.

ADDITIONS/CORRECTIONS/DELETIONS

Commissioner Lewis moved to delete items 12a, 12b, 12c, and 12d from the consent agenda. Commissioner Dr. Martin seconded. The City Clerk took the roll call. Commissioner Lewis, Commissioner Bustamante, and Commissioner Dr. Martin voted in favor of the removal, while Mayor Borgelin and Vice Mayor Lewis-Ricketts voted against.

THE MOTION FOR DELETING ITEMS 12a 12b, 12c, and 12d FROM THE AGENDA PASSED AND APPROVED WITH 3 IN FAVOR AND 2 AGAINST.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

The Vice Mayor opened the floor for public comments on items not listed on the agenda. Mr. Bill Lester, Ms. Marlo Agold, and Ms. Kimotta Johnson, addressed the Commission on various matters. Mr. Bill Lester began by acknowledging the Commission’s critical role in shaping policy, allocating resources, and safeguarding the community’s well-being. Ms. Marlo Agold expressed concern over recent events and media coverage, specifically citing the "Three Amigos" cartoons published in Associated News, which she felt undermined the transparency and integrity of the Commission’s decision-making process. Kimotta Johnson spoke about the food drive in the community.
