Subject 2. 25/26-120 - Applications to Attend Professional Conferences / Workshops / School Business Meeting ***APPROVED*** Meeting Nov 18, 2025 - Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees Type Action (Consent) BACKGROUND Applications to attend conferences, workshops, and school business meetings provide district employees with professional development and networking opportunities that support instructional improvement, leadership growth, and operational efficiency. Participation in these events allows staff to stay current with best practices, state and federal education policies, research-based strategies, and innovations in teaching and school management. Attendance is aligned with the district’s commitment to continuous professional learning and student success. ANALYSIS Attending conferences and workshops enables employees to gain new knowledge and skills that can be applied directly to classroom instruction, administrative processes, and student support services. These experiences foster collaboration, allow for the sharing of successful practices with colleagues, and promote innovative solutions to challenges faced by the district. School business meetings provide opportunities to engage with other districts, governmental agencies, and professional associations, ensuring that the district’s policies and practices are aligned with current standards and regulations. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IMPACT Professional development through conferences, workshops, and business meetings indirectly supports student achievement by enhancing staff capacity. Employees who apply new strategies, tools, and knowledge in their classrooms and schools contribute to improved instructional quality, stronger school leadership, and more effective student support. These benefits translate to increased engagement, better academic outcomes, and more equitable learning opportunities for all students. FISCAL IMPACT The fiscal impact includes registration fees, travel, lodging, and per diem expenses associated with staff attendance. Drew University, at a cost not to exceed $17,500. Goals 1. Student Success (Increase Student Achievement via Student Centered Instruction) BACKGROUND The National College Resources Foundation (NCRF) is a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to close the gap in educational achievement and college access among underrepresented and underserved students. NCRF provides direct services that prepare students for college and career pathways through college expos, mentorship, academic support, and scholarship opportunities. NCRF partners with school districts nationwide to host Historically Black College University Expos, that connect students and families with over 100 colleges, universities, and career programs. Students have the opportunity to apply to multiple colleges on-site, often receiving same-day acceptances and scholarship offers. This partnership aligns with the District’s Strategic Goals of increasing college readiness, postsecondary access, and equity in educational outcomes for all students. ANALYSIS The proposed partnership with NCRF will enhance the District’s college-going culture by providing students and families with: Access to College Representatives: Students can meet directly with admissions officers and explore Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). On-the-Spot Admissions and Scholarships: Many students qualify for immediate admissions and scholarship awards during NCRF expos, reducing financial and procedural barriers. Workshops and Mentorship: NCRF offers workshops on financial aid, FAFSA/CADAA completion, essay writing, and career pathways, as well as ongoing mentorship and academic guidance. Equity and Inclusion Focus: NCRF’s programs directly support first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students, reinforcing the District’s commitment to educational equity. Goals 1. Student Success (Increase Student Achievement via Student Centered Instruction) BACKGROUND EAB Match is a college enrollment platform designed to increase college-going rates by aligning students’ academic profiles, interests, and goals with higher education institutions that represent the best “match” for their likelihood of acceptance, affordability, and persistence to graduation. The system draws on national data to provide students, counselors, and families with insights into college options that fit both academically and financially. EAB’s Direct Admission and Match platforms allow eligible students to receive real college admission and scholarship offers from participating institutions without submitting traditional college applications, reducing barriers and expanding access to postsecondary opportunities. ANALYSIS Implementation: The district seeks to implement EAB Match during the school year across all comprehensive high schools. School sites will received training on interpreting student match reports and integrating them into one-on-one counseling sessions, college application workshops, and senior check-ins. Subject 8. 25/26-1148 - Resolution No. 25/26-20 - To Excuse the Absence of Board Member Alma Taylor Pleasant from the Regular Board Meeting of October 14, 2025 (Board of Trustees) ***APPROVED*** Meeting Nov 18, 2025 - Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees Type Action BACKGROUND In accordance with Board Policy 9250 , each member of the Board of Trustees is entitled to receive monthly compensation as stipulated by law and Board action. Should a member be unable to attend all scheduled Board meetings within a given month, their compensation will be prorated based on the percentage of meetings attended. However, exceptions to this policy may be made by the Board, provided they comply with relevant legal provisions, such as Education Code 35120 , which governs such compensation guidelines. ANALYSIS A Board member may receive compensation for meetings they were unable to attend if the Board, through a formal resolution, determines that the absence was due to performing designated services for the district, illness, jury duty, or other hardships that the Board deems acceptable. This provision aligns with the stipulations outlined in Education Code 35120 , ensuring that members are fairly compensated in situations beyond their control, provided the absence meets the criteria set by the Board. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IMPACT By ensuring that the district remains responsive to the values, beliefs, and priorities of the community, the Board creates a foundation for policies and practices that are student-centered and equity-driven. This alignment promotes greater community trust and engagement, supports culturally relevant instruction, and strengthens partnerships that enhance student learning and well-being.
