City of Live Oak Report to City Council Meeting Date: April 5, 2023 Title: Approval to Apply for Possible Future Purchase of a Type 1-2 Fire Apparatus Contact Information: Rich Epperson, Battalion Chief Location: Live Oak Fire Services Background: Live Oak has an aging fleet due to budgetary constraints over the past fiscal years and due to the age of reserve engine. The department spends approximately 35,000 per year in vehicle repairs. This department's only reserve apparatus reliability is in question, and this condition is causing it to be placed out of service routinely and unusable for extended periods of time. If this purchase is approved, this apparatus would replace the apparatus and lower the costs within the department. The apparatus requested from the state is a multipurpose engine and can be used for more than the current apparatus that is in service today. The OES engine will benefit the community's all risk emergency needs by exceeding the capabilities of the first responding engine and providing reliable emergency response equipment. Fiscal Impacts: The Fire Engine would come from equipment 10-5-1045-5703 and the remaining portion for the hoses and such from small tools and equipment 10- 5-1045-5319. Recommendation: Approve to apply for possible future purchase of a Type 1 reserve engine from the Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) through their State Assistance for Fire Equipment Act (S.A.F.E.) program and authorize the City Manager to sign the resale contract.
