Henry b plant played a leading role in the transformation that occurred in the American South. His railroads and steamships connected Florida to national and global markets changing the state's future for the better by improving new methods of transportation. He initiated a new age in tourism and commerce and assisted the military in the defense of our nation because of this Henry plant is an excellent example of the American federalist values of patriotism and prosperity. A strong federalists viewpoint is that land value rises in proportion to commercial growth. This is seen in the Federalist Papers. Number 12, when Alexander Hamilton argues that driving commerce is the most productive source of national. Well, it has been found in various countries proportion has commerce's forest land has risen in value replant. Florida was sparsely populated and highly inaccessible plant brought railroads to Florida, connecting the inland to the West Coast as plants. Railroads expanded the land which was previously considered worthless, became highly valuable. These projects led to a 96% increase in population between 18, 80 1900 but plant didn't stop there. He had vision to establish a continuous means of travel from the north to Cuba. The way to do this was by developing a steamship line. The steamships provided rapid and reliable transportation linking Florida to Cuba. The Caribbean and the Eastern seaboard driving a massive growth in tourism plants work directly merit Hamilton's principles by strengthening nationwide commerce and industrial expansion. Patriotism is another federalist principal exhibited by Henry plant in the 18 80's plant. Both the port of Tampa to secure its position as a major transportation hub in the Western hemisphere. He also constructed the Tampa Bay Hotel, which became a major tourist attraction in the state of Florida in 18, 98, the United States was developing a plan to invade Cuba during the Spanish American War and Plant convinced the U.S. Government to use his sport and his hotel as headquarters for the U.S. Army. As a result of this war, us emerged as a great power on the world stage further strengthening our government, which was so vitally important to the Federalist Plant, proved his patriotism by sacrificing personal profits for the good of the nation. Former PRESIDENT George Washington stated in his farewell address, the name of the American must always exalt the pride of patriotism. Henry plan exhibited the streets by forgoing personal gain and instead put his country first, a decision which would have made PRESIDENT Washington Henry plans contributions not only lead to significant commercial and population growth in Florida, but also advanced our nation economically and militarily. Our nation was founded upon these principles of patriotism and prosperity. Thank you. Liked and George and her family for a group photo for worse. >> If you go behind plate. >> we do have one more recognition and my apologies. That's not agenda. Partnerships through businesses and community organizations just for dive into reading today or through Rock Hospitality, which owns all the restaurants where these take place. Patterson Foundation is involved in that. The early learning coalition provided books for all the kids. They get a book every time they come. We've got volunteer teachers to come. We've got volunteers from the community. You come in and sit with these kids every day to read with them. Everything from retired teachers too. Business leaders too high school students across the gamut. >> And and the >> and I'm always impressed with the involvement of our community. And in things for education. Just. You know, whether a retired person coming into a school and working with the kiddo or it's a massive company, you know, providing backpacks and resources to our kids who need them. We have such an amazing community in Manatee County and so many organizations that work together and I never really understood how many there were you know, just being in a classroom all day. You don't you don't get to go out there and see all the organizations that helped to contribute to learning of our kids. Until I got on the Children Services Advisory board and realize how many organizations we have in our county and the ones that I see every week are just the ones that are asking for county funding. That doesn't count all the other ones that get funding from other places. Actually also on a mission out of this that all of our nonprofits that that the cfpb funds because I can't see them during grant time. I have to go in the off. Starting that the summer as well and I'll try many of them as possible in the fall. But we have an amazing community and they do so much for our kids. You know, even if it's just, you know, I I went to with Martinez and MISS Pray. We went to visit the juvenile detention center or not that listen to that of the jail. Our students that in the jail program up there and they have to meet a library and former English teacher. I felt that they needed more books. So I put out 2 posts one on a teacher page and one on my own Facebook page and I ended up with somewhere in the round of 800 books. That all ended up in my minivan. And I have to take multiple trips over the psc to deliver them to MISS Lyons, who then made sure they got to the jail even taken straight to the jail yourself know they had to to go what I would have because they're already in my minivan. But just just. 2 things requests and I got hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of books. I think multiple trips to get them all so they could get them there for the kids that have these books and and just outpouring from the community was just absolutely amazing to me. It just it warms my heart to see how invest in our community. Isn't that district, which is MR. Short's Point earlier why we have such an incredible district. It's not just the teachers and the staff and the district staff over here in the 5 people sitting up here making decisions. It takes our entire community and the outpouring and the love that our community has for public schools still amazes me every day. So really, that's really all I wanted to say. And Just to thank the community for their continued support of our schools of our kids. I am so incredibly proud of every child in this district and every staff person in teacher and secretary and custodian and bus driver and mechanic and every other I can't name. >> For all you do for our kids because 5 and Dr PRESIDENT Can't the don't don't run the show. I mean, we run the show with, you know, for your quotes here. But it takes every single person in every single building and all in the community to really do all the great things that. We do. Hear everybody for that as we are now that we've officially ended the school year and are prepping for the next one. Please keep at it. We appreciate you. And then the full have to say. >> Thank Thank you so much, MR. Kennedy, next. Okay. Heather. I really appreciate you are. >> Still almost 2 years and your enthusiasm because me being the old head up here, sometimes I take things for you know, maybe lost my edge a little bit. And then I see you. You're so excited about everything you do and everywhere you go, Mike, I remember when I used to be like that and again, like for >> And it just like it gives me hope Nothing. Have hope. But, you know, mean, like it just it fills me with some energy that I don't otherwise have. So it puts a bank you for And as you were speaking, I too, was kind of flashback to chance. Comment at the end of the workshop and about how. I would suggest if you're listening to this are watching this, go watch for yourself because it was a powerful statement about how this district is a key part of the success of this county as a whole. And as this board has talked about many times, we are in an environment and education where we have to compete we have to perform produce results and have good programs and create things that are attractive to get families to choose us and not a private or a family scholarship. Family empowerment scholarship or a charter. And I had never really thought of it in that context. Those words for were very, very powerful. So, Chad, thank you for that. MADAM Chair. I really am impressed. I thought you set a record at her last But here we are. 45 minutes after starting this month, I think you might have broken your own record. Oh, my goodness. So but I but you know, you've really done an excellent job as chair since you become And I know you'll continue to do so. I just appreciate your leadership. And you're. We represent us that this board to hold out the community. And, you know, MISTER Tatum, I was hoping that, you know, before the filing deadline, I was wonder if you might change your mind at the last minute. But now it is past and you made mention of it tonight. Well, we're talking of these things. And but wait a minute, I'm not going to be here. So but but here you are like, you know, kind of. What's that? What's called when the plane comes in like that Glenn Entry path that led the path final approach. Final approach. Thank you. You're on your final approach. But you're still asking great questions and you're still deeply involved and that's that's to be committed to. So I'm many more meetings together. So this is certainly not a goodbye. And as I said earlier, Superintendent PRESIDENT, you know, just not going the park this year and I know you'll continue to do so. When I saw on when we were doing the the sales tax. So that was the capital. That was the capital budget presentation. It said on the sales tax, you know, to be renewed or expires JUNE 30th 2032 and I just had a mental note like. Dr Presence still here when when we got to put that on the ballot at the presidential election of 2032. So got a lot of good things to come. It's so and to the rest of the team. Thank you guys always keeping up to date as well. Just been really good people. So it's nice when you work somewhere and you're like that and you really like and respect the people you work with. So and we are we are fortunate to have So that's it for me. MADAM Thanks. Thank you so much. Happy 4th, everybody in 1969, baby. So I'm I'm a man on the moon, baby. I guess there's a lot going on at 69. But that's your by Centennial baby Ideal Armstrong baby, ok, now, that's an approach 80's bp. >> good >> that study for year heard go for people. >> just thank you. Staff for put all together. Obviously, we had lot of consent and on a stuff that about, consent was great. Workshop is fantastic. You know, probably one of the I really enjoyed the pre meeting to to the workshop where we get talk and have some questions about the cap of planning centers. So that was something I thought new this year. We had not done that since I've been on the board word when we got together which I thought was great and I think it helped. And the workshop because we have, you know, we've got some things we've got obviously decide. It's a big projects. I want to say thank you to not only Dr PRESIDENT The staff as well. There's lot of times where I'm sure other board members like this, too. But and I told the Sunday our Reza, before. I'm one of those. It comes with like ideas and things all the time. And probably Collier, we go. He cares. Showed again. That was something else. And and I do want to say thank you for being gracious and listening even on your head, maybe like this guy. But I do think there are some things, you know, MR. Kenny brought it up that and the air we're in. This is something for Memphis ba. We spoke about and last briefing about what fsb aided a couple weeks ago in our but our conference and they usually have themes right? I think DECEMBER it was like a I was the big team and everything was centered around a I Howard court bring that and this one. I felt like last win was about how are we going to that? As districts right to ever changing environment that that is education. And and I think that there's some some unique ways. It's challenging weighs in. It's not going to be And there are some ideas I had that said it's not going to be easy. But I think if we don't, we don't go after and change some of the thinking that we just have always done it this way. And if we don't. If we don't give what some families are looking for. We're going we're going to lose students. Right? And I think we've done a very good job in this district. As I said, the workshop of of coming together. And providing really great programs. And I think the parents see that. And I think we can continue to still do that and also operate a little bit outside the box And i'm not going need it to much of the stuff that that's for the team to figure out. And you guys did that. But I do believe we've got to do you gotta make sure we're on the cutting edge and provide best education and some of best education we talk about. Florida MISTER Tatum has is not always just 7.32 o'clock not be the best for everybody. Anyways, just thank you. All the staff for for for being, you know, adaptable little bit and be willing to listen in and maybe make some changes and do some stuff because state is not always easy. Speaking of kind of community coming together. Last time we met well, rain over to the city park. Groundbreaking and I think that's going to extremely significant change to the city of Bradenton and Central Corridor. I think you look at that that project between. Not only the school district, the county and the city and so that the 3 major government entities, but also between private industry like the Pirates. You other other industries and stuff, you know. The sheriff's office with how? I think you're gonna see something very significant. There. And Ali Reid be able to provide some things, but I think it's gonna be able to change hope for the culture there. And and which obviously Ballard, Roger, sit right there night, the city. So that was exciting to see the groundbreaking in that. And I just go by the name. It's already crews that's going to going to be awesome. And that. >> Hope everybody has a great 4th of the we get together till JULY 21st, right? So almost I-44 work bring right, so most month. So hoping teachers enjoying summer, Maine joined fireworks number. Don't play with fire. Your hands. I put my ground and month. That's my safety. Up. There was the whole people, the ceremonies Pentagon that would agree with that going make up. >> MR. Tatum, we sure do. Want to go for me. He's gonna make us cry again. >> Are you really going a Okay. Because I know gets to people. Hard to follow Yeah, this is the best for us. >> Okay Well, first of all. On our agenda, I wanted to point out that was. Anew item that we dead was not news on the consent item. Number 2, some 9.2 as their agreement between New College. And the school district for turned teacher intern program. I'm so glad got that. I we talked about things like that and and solidified it. And then when you talk about empty suit, you look at our agenda again. Agreement between the school District of Manatee Memorial Hospital students can't learn everything. The campus case he they have to go out into the real world and get real life experiences. So we do that with the hospital. Dental dental, assisting, or whatever those students go to the dentist. Mon of them was at my dentist one time. And I was just like I'll see you bad way. Should I guess not cool and then pair met. They have to be out somewhere with Cruz as they're learning the ropes of what their goal, their life is going to become. So it's a lot I just wanted to highlight some of those things because so often time we just go through consent and thank you for the kind words MISTER Kennedy. It all comes down to the board doing there. Behind the scenes at their briefings and and cabinet providing all information and getting back to us individually for questions. And I did thoroughly enjoyed the one on one for the capital. Yeah, we have challenges. I think fine solutions to everything that we talked about. I'm really not worried about that. And you talked about change. MISTER Cho. If you don't do change, you become stagnant and stale. State constantly got a look at different things attract. And we have so many things that we can bring to our our community and the partnerships. The day. Go without saying we were all at ribbon cutting our groundbreaking, I guess. And it was very impactful for that community. There were people there from the community. They wanted to see what was going on. And I've heard nothing but positive about that. And 2, when you talk about new ideas. I was at the nurses pending, well, everybody was tornado. I don't know where but I went to the nurse pending this morning and worst setting on this stage and to see this, the slideshow of students, you got a around and look up, which is a little difficult. So I brought it to their attention to put a screen and the information on the back wall of an information booth. The people on a stage maybe know all the way down. But the people running the program, can see where that slideshow and when it stops someone to get up and So I made to kind of observation, a suggestion not only just me. It was Dr Gill were >> So I hope we can get that down pretty quick but >> all of those things for that. We do as a community. All comes down to the person is going to come help you. And any kind of form, not a cull. Attorneys judges. Don't know, but it all starts and k through 12 and then on from there. So I'm very proud of what we have going on here look forward to what the next year brings us. And I just want congratulate all the students from him to see this year. I won't be able attend tomorrow, but I understand or some will be there. So give him my personal yeah. So other than we have had this this month. If you look at my calendar left from. I look forward to taking a little bit of a break for this kind of work but continue to do the work outside the district. So. Thank you very much. MR. Okay. >> We have one very important piece of business way to take care of here. And we have to give MR. Cho call sign. So I was reading James Mattis is about the other day when he was a colonel. We got a call sign and it was given to him by his staff and the call sign was. Chaos. Right? Ca to us. And it stands for Colonel has another outstanding suggested. >> Yeah, so I looked at So I saw his name on like that works. It does show. >> As another outstanding suggestion. >> and chaos. So we got that thing everybody else. And I think we all the calls now we're perfectly either name works Chad or Cho. They both went >> Okay. So thank you. Lore and then, you know, for another great meeting, another great work was always run. Well, there are a number of paintings that I have been to since last meeting, whether they were fire, emt, dental, nursing, all kinds of good stuff going on. 70's is doing a heck of a job over there. >> All right. And so now, yes, I have a video date last time talk about happiness and virtue and like which one would come first and the difference between the 2 of didn't touch >> So just as a reminder, you know, as parents, we all tell our kids that my mom told me all her life. I just want you to be happy and I thought about that. Like, yeah, mom. But how about how about you? Ask for virtue for me. I like to help me be a better person because being a better person first needs to happen is the other way around people that are virtuous tend to bring a lot of unhappiness to themselves and other people. But if we get the virtue thing right, first, that's how we increase our chances for happiness. And then we have unhappy times. We handle them better. So this video is kind of a combination of Memorial Day and enjoy the 4th because we were trying to get out of here on the last meeting for Memorial Day. And so I need to set up the video for it. I've mentioned this gentleman before. This is their guy Gruters. Uw 5 years and 3 months in North Vietnam. What you're going to see is a it's a video of his homecoming. I mean, a little video his own coming. So what's happened is he's literally flown back in the United States of America. He's flown into an Air Force base and Alabama. One of his squadron mates who was knocked out there, who who had come home from Vietnam, that that his fellow copilot, you might their fellow pilot and his wife drive out to the flight line. They pick so Sandy. His wife is in the car right? So they go out to the flight line. They get guy. Again. He's just flown in from overseas with his first time back. So they go pick him up. They drive. So Santa is in the cards. Wife and he's in the car. They drive back to what are called visiting officers quarters area that are set up for guy and his family. And so what you're going to see is the video as he as couldn't get right You're going to see this and Isn't that like that around those to be a pilot was was to be control. But it's so power you're going to see that and just a set up. So his wife gets out of the car. She's already seen the first person. He's going to hug as as younger brother. And it's not to remember. I told you, Terry was his younger brother going over there and flew b. 52 and bomb tenure got the North Vietnamese to the table. So part of that agreement was that the prisoners home. So we actually came out was his literally was his brother's keeper, right? I'm going over there to get my brother back over here. They were the first person you see. Is going to be his younger brother. And then he's so happy to see a younger brother. You like he's not going to let him go. The second person you're going to see as his dad likes on. There's some other people is blow to. So the second person you're going to see is that it's going use that the 3rd person you're going to see gets his mother. Alright, literally. I mentioned Lazarus and are in our workshops like this is like a lot as a risk moment. Right? Getting his son back from the dead. And some other people, their cousins and other members of the family and friends. But then the last 2 people are going to see. Alright, is that 2 little girls? Who haven't seen him for over 5 years. There were 2, 4, when he leaves another 79. And so. But that's set up. You can play the video. Let's >> one our own. >> And that's Just not to. And he's >> With mom now. Up a faded out. That was beautiful. So make one last comment there. And that is was this close to getting his brother Terry here today, right? >> But believe it or not, the guys like a rich. Still working at the age of 70 and I'm not gonna make would have been cool have carry in the room because brother for that, the guy who flew the b 52, it helped back home. And those good video as emotional and everything. But it does cut hope to make the point that, you know, he was raised. It's cool. They really did focus on teaching in how purchase you went Catholic school, right? And then he went to the Air Force Academy guided and all those things combined so that when he got in that situation because he thought about killing himself. He was going to take revenge on his captors and all that. But at some point you got it. He figured I was like, no, I. Have to hold this together. Started praying. And he said they learned to not. It starts stop hitting my captors and are praying for him and then I got to the point where I could say forgive them, father, they don't know what they're doing and all that comes together so that because he was virtuous when he got himself into that crucible moment, he was able to come out of it and bring a lot of happiness back home because he got so, yeah, that's 2 little girls are hit 5 more kids when he got back. He's still married. He's been married 62 years. And I think in 2012, yet they actually he and his wife adopted, adopted another child to make 8 children. And his brother was very similar. His brother had the same experience, went to the Catholic School. Then when Air Force Academy then flew b, 52 ce he his brother has 6 children. I believe. All after he got back and he and his wife married for 50 years. Unfortunately, she passed away a couple years ago. And if you remember, I asked all of all of them to include James Stockdale it and ask him what he wrote this. It was another senior p o w would you go back and change anything? And the answer is no. And it happened. This is the meaning of life. And those guys are crazy because they could stop a lot of unhappiness. But what I figured out is no, because I it helped me become more virtuous as a human being. What I went through and because of that, I can bring more happiness to myself. My family, everybody else around me. And that's a really good lesson for the 4th of JULY that the way we keep this country strong, it's for each one of us individually to become more virtuous. And that's why the leader teacher thing Dr resident important because that's how you start to the top of us. And that's why do these of these are is an example of leader teachers stuff right? It starts at the top and we just keep pushing it down farther and farther, you know, into the system. And so everybody becomes to some degree leader teachers. So Lord bless and keep us make his face to shine upon us, brings prosperity, peace. Douglas, us. And on this 4th of JULY, MAY GOD bless this great country GOD's Green Earth, United States America. Thank you for your time. Thank you, MR. 2. >> With that board 06:38pm. I
