I've admired for many years. Last year I rode buses, shovels and trains. From carol city to theo naranja and from doral to the beach. The seat of a bus is a good teacher. Through my work with the national multiples carlos is ety the schizophrenia and psychosis action alliance and as chair of the miami-dade county commission and disability issues I know how much this program matters to those of us living with challenges that affect body and mind. Just a few years ago I wandered in and out of this building talking to myself and riding the train back and forth. Transit kept me moving when I had lost my way. It gave me independence, stability and a tether to your world. This program taught me what it means to love your neighbor. Hrough service. And gave me a way to move from being needy to being needed. My mother died last year and I wish she could see her prodigal son found his way back. During our last moments together she urged me to be a voice for others living with schizophrenia and I hope this recognition honors that chart. Commissioner gilbert and fellow commissioners, key only mcghee and others thank you for your work to expand transit and make it more reliable and efficient. Mayor daniela levine cava thank you for your tireless efforts to make transit more accessible. Cheryl mizell and javier for leading the ambassador program, stacy miller and the dtpw team for keeping writers safe and to commissioner rodriguez for strengthening transit and to my best friends, law professor matthew dietz and debbie dietz, thank you for steering me towards volunteer work and giving me the confidence and resources to fight for what is right. Today I'm here on behalf of more than 300,000 students, our employees, families and the communities we serve across miami dade county. this referendum represents a renewal of an investment that miami-dade voters have strongly supported in the past. Miami dade county public schools as many of you know is enabling the school district for no more than six years in a row and we are designated as a high performance school district from the state of florida and we are ranked among the top 10 school districts in the state. We provide a seamless continuum of learning, sometimes we are seeing the k-12 district but we do much more, we start in pre-k, we extend into our technical colleges and also our adult centers. >>chair: thank you doctor. Thank you so much. >> MAY I finish? >>chair: thank you, appreciate it. >> good morning CHAIRMAN, vice-CHAIRMAN, MADAM Mayor and I'm coming from miami beach to speak on the agenda item 1484 which is. >>chair: your name and address please. >> adam kravitz, 2982 alton road miami beach. I'm speaking on agenda item 14a4 which is the closure of parts of ocean drive to vehicular traffic and what I would just address to the commission today is that traffic is a major issue in miami beach now. It's becoming more and more congested, more and more crowded with this item and future items, in fact tomorrow the city commission is considering the closure of north bay road with security gates which will put more traffic into the system. This commission MAY now and in the future be facing items which create more congestion and more traffic in miami beach and ultimately because the county does have jurisdiction over these items, should take into account the consideration of the residence of the surrounding neighborhoods. >>chair: thank you MR. Kravitz. >> good morning chair and members of the board, al palacio from 3300 northwest. 27th avenue, second vice PRESIDENT Of the florida state fraternal order of police representing 40,000 members across florida but most importantly the PRESIDENT Of the miami dade schools fraternal order of police which is directly affected by this referendum. Since the inception of the marjorie stoneman douglas act the safety and security of our schools across florida went from the background to the foreground and we ask this referendum which has been such a vital portion of us being able to fulfill that mandate and protect, truly protect the staff and students of miami-dade county we ask you to continue to help this endeavor once again by placing this worthy endeavor on the ballot for the voters in this county to continue helping to protect our future generations to become productive and fruitful members of society. Hank you in advance for your support and it was item 14a2 class joe liner, 5553 northwest. 56th street and I want to begin by thanking the voters. When voters approved the referendum in 18 and 22 they made a thoughtful decision to invest in long-term academic strength and safety of their local public schools. Statewide out about 30 counties have locally approved referendum in place at this point those counties educate 75% of florida students. The widespread utilization of referendum reflects the shared understanding of the districts require stable local revenue to supplement state funding. The additional local revenue has allowed for instructional salary supplements and security personnel. The item does not contemplate a tax increase, it simply allows voters the option to maintain the existing millage for four additional years. This issue has never received less than 65% support from the voters of miami-dade county. Thank you MR. Chair senator garcia for your assistance bringing this today and on behalf of united teachers of dade and are 22,000 employees we represent ask for an affirmative vote. We are grateful for the hard work of county staff and negotiating all the documents and we continue to look forward to the good collaboration we've had with landmark. One of the challenges was finding funding in addition to the monies raised by his house so far. 5 million. The county contributions there was still a funding gap. The project was approved by the impact foundation, the charitable lending MR. Lowell don is here with an announcement about that. >> 's house I'm on item 1483, his house has been an integral part of miami-dade community for many years and the most profound sense of the word, this organization has saved the lives of some of the most vulnerable disadvantaged children not only across our company but through the nation and world read his house has demonstrated responsible stewardship of its resources, the hundreds of dedicated employees and board members who serve the mission have worked tirelessly and with great part ensuring those who need compassion that their talents will always have a place to turn in this work will endure for generations to come.
