New Rules for Protecting Private Information in Court Documents

• •Effective July 1, 2021, the Clerk of Court is no longer required to identify or redact confidential information in circuit civil, county civil, and small claims court documents.
• •Filers (attorneys and self-represented litigants) are now solely responsible for ensuring confidential information is redacted or identified.
• •Filers must submit a 'Notice of Confidential Information' when including Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or other non-public information.
• •Filers must specify the exact page numbers and locations of confidential information within their filings.
• •Filers must identify the specific type of confidential information or legal provision that applies to the data being protected.
• •The rule change applies to circuit civil, county civil, and small claims court cases.
• •The rule change excludes Jimmy Ryce civil commitments, sexual assault cases, and medical malpractice filings.

Residents and attorneys filing civil or small claims cases in Glades County must now manually flag confidential information in their documents to prevent it from becoming public record.
