What This Bill Proposed
House Bill 5535 permits tow truck and operators in West Virginia to equip their vehicles with one or more flashing or revolving blue warning lights on the rear, in addition to previously authorized yellow lights. The blue lights may only be operated while the tow truck is stationary on the side of the road assisting a disabled vehicle and are strictly prohibited while the vehicle is in motion.
Tow truck operators gain legal authorization to use high-visibility blue warning signals during roadside rescues, subject to strict operational boundaries that forbid moving use.
- West Virginia law regulates specialized lighting on motor vehicles to prevent confusion with official police, fire, and emergency response vehicles. context
