The 30-second read

Recorded outcome

The Hayward City Council voted to transition from an at-large election system to a district-based system starting in 2026. The council selected a final map defining six voting districts and established a schedule for when each district will hold its first election.

Why it matters

Starting in 2026, Hayward residents will vote for a specific City Council representative for their district rather than voting for all council members at-large, changing how candidates are elected and represented.

What happens next

No later meeting or follow-up date is stated in the reviewed record.

An official outcome record - an action agenda or minutes - is published for this meeting.
