What This Bill Would Do

Beginning January 1, 2027, Senate Bill 1287 increases the maximum state income tax deduction for private retirement benefits from $6,000 to $12,000. It also raises the adjusted gross income thresholds required to qualify for the full deduction for single filers, married couples filing jointly, and married individuals filing separately.

Why it matters

Retirees receiving private pensions, 401(k) plans, IRAs, or other privately funded retirement allowances may see a larger state tax exemption on their retirement income, provided their adjusted gross income falls below the newly increased limits starting in tax year 2027.

Who It Would Affect

Groups the bill's text would affect if enacted, as described in the record. Being affected is not a position for or against it.
