The City of Dunedin and the Committee on Aging proudly recognize Allen Kynes and Eric Houghton for their outstanding achievement as recipients of the 2026 Senior Hall of Fame award . 26 -2

Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2026 Dunedin City Commission Allen Kynes expressed appreciation for the recognition. He related his and Deborah's experience coming to Dunedin in 1979 and did not know anyone and found a house on Edgewater Drive with wonderful neighbors of note who introduced them to the community and that is what got them involved. He noted his history of community participation including what is now the Dunedin Fine Arts Center , Rotary , Dunedin Library Foundation , and Deborah becoming involved in many places , including being elected to the City Commission at which time he had to resign from many boards and committees due to any conflict. After that , he began working with Deborah on other projects and hosting various events including Historical Society, some of which continue today. He encouraged other residents to take advantage of the many opportunities to be contributors to the City of Dunedin, a special place. Eric Houghton thanked everyone for this great honor . He wanted to celebrate Dunedin as it has molded him and expressed the importance of it happening in the neighborhood. He related the history of his family coming to Dunedin and beginning with living across the street at 533 Wood Street and to other homes in the city over time and his life in Dunedin . As an adult it was his pleasure to return the favor by volunteering and serving in those places that molded him. He expressed how fortunate he has been to live in Dunedin all his life in the neighborhood. Mayor Freaney, on behalf of the entire Commission, noted that they wholeheartedly approve of the selection of the two gentlemen who have done so much for Dunedin and cannot thank them enough for being part of their community and taking such an active part. CITIZEN INPUT Mayor Freaney advised now was the time for anyone in the audience who wished to speak on a topic not on the agenda. Sharon Herman of 2325 Armour Drive who serves on the Board for the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce spoke about the property tax proposal that will be on the ballot this fall making the following points: None of the iterations introduced by the Legislature have been fully vetted to demonstrate their complete financial impact on the residents of Florida. Citizens are being asked to believe a proposal affecting millions of Floridians received thorough analysis in less than a day before passing this bill. Elected officials in Tallahassee should be held to the standard of a personal financial planner . Next year the Florida Taxation & Budget Reform Commission will convene ; this Constitutionally established commission of 25 subject matter experts appointed by the State of Florida meets every 20 years to conduct a comprehensive review of Florida 's tax structure; revenue needs, spending priorities and government efficiency . That is the type of thoughtful and deliberate process that any kind of reform deserves . Property tax reform might be needed ; however , reform should be carefully studied, transparent and fiscally responsible. This ballot proposal fails that test on all three fronts and she believes will greatly harm the residents of Dunedin , Pinellas County and communities throughout Florida. David Ballard Geddis, Jr. of 802 Georgia Avenue, Palm Harbor made the following comments : For over 40 years Honeymoon Island has been routinely set on fire, burning every bird's nest in its process. The mangroves have been systematically and purposefully killed for over 20 years causing the beach to erode. Strategically, the pine trees are dying of a recently introduced Pine Beetle blight. There are enough rocks on Honeymoon Island to stub everyone 's toe from here to 26-3

Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2026 Dunedin City Commission Orlando . Honeymoon Island is an environmental crime scene overseen by a political crime syndicate . Dunedin Causeway is a disaster waiting for a solution as well. The Causeway bridge was damaged 30 years ago with dump trucks overladen with fill dirt excavated from the construction of the well done reclamation facility and brought out to the beach . The overburdened bridge today remains in a constant state of needing repair . Such longstanding legislatively collaborated comprehensive political mismanagement has proven itself to be unworthy of holding the public purse . Corruption runs like water in this state . In revision of this , I have a concept of how I would like to see Dunedin Causeway reconfigured implementing a new , larger , more expansive bridge that frees up tidal flow , flushing the estuary behind Caladesi Island that is in a state of decay . The reconfiguring of the Causeway would also include extending two northbound cul-de-sacs (seen in a diagram shown) ; these cul-de-sacs would run in effect parallel to the lntercoastal Waterway and they can be extended northward as the population increases so these cul-de-sacs can increase to accommodate the people who want to go to the beach . We all moved to Florida for the purpose of accessing the water . This would be a way of going about doing it. To pay for these reconstruction efforts those who got paid to do it the first time and did not do it right ; they should be held on the hook for paying for reconfiguring Dunedin Causeway ; they knew this was going to come all along and they knew they have to redo this and they are responsible for doing it right. Hearing and seeing no one else wishing to speak , Mayor Freaney moved to the next agenda item . 2. CONSENT AGENDA 2.a. Sole Source Purchase of an ABI Force - Z-23 Zero-Turn Turf & Infield Maintenance Laser Grading Machine from St. Johns Turf Care, LLC, of Mishawaka, IN, in the amount of $54,885 City Manager Bramley explained : Th is item is for a very elaborate piece of equipment for leveling infield and outfield , zero turn . It is a very useful piece of equipment that will add efficiencies in the future . It is very expensive ; therefore , in light of some of the reform issues to be considered in the future she would like to have another look to ensure it will gain the efficiency needed moving forward . 3. ACTION ITEMS 3.a. Resolution 26-07 FY 2026 2nd Budget Amendment City Attorney Cowan read Resolution 26-07 by title only . MOTION: Motion was made by Vice Mayor Walker and seconded by Commiss ioner Gow to adopt Resolut ion 26-07. Staff Presentation Finance Director Tyler advised : This is the second Budget Amendment for this fiscal year. The total amendment in this staffing is an increase in overall appropriations of $1 ,826 ,258 in various funds in FY2026. The proposed amendments and dates the items were presented to the Commission are on Pages 2 - 4 in the Staffing Report . General Fund Item (G) Increase operating expenditures budget by $182 ,000 for the replacement of carpet tiles in the library . This project was not in the original FY 2026 budget , and it will be 100% funded by the Machan Estate Bequest , which are restricted funds . There is no impact on available fund balance . Item (H) Reclass $85 ,000 from the Aid to Private Organization to the Aid to Government Agency account for the Clearwater Ferry Project. This reclass is for accounting purposes and is a result of the fact that the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) took over the Clearwater Ferry Service . There is no change in fund balance . Impact Fee Fund Item (A) Increase capital budget from $80 ,000 to $138 ,000 and reclass to the correct capital expenditure account for the purchase of a modular vehicle barrier system. This results in a $58 ,000 increase in expenditure budget which is offset by a $58 ,000 increase in revenue budget for a transfer in from the Risk Fund . The total cost is split between the Law Enforcement Impact Fee Fund and the Risk Fund . There is no net change in fund balance . Water/Wastewater Fund Item (B) Increase cap ital expense budget by $1,446 ,258 for the WWTP Facility 8 Filter Media and Basin Rehab project. This construction bid came in over the $1,468 ,752 budget. This results in a decrease of $1,446 ,258 in net pos ition . 26-5

Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2026 Marina Fund Dunedin City Commission Item (E) Increase debt service expense budget by $43 ,000 for the Marina Fund interest for the Storm line of credit for expenses incurred due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton . This results in a decrease in net position. Stormwater Fund Item (F) Transfer $1,444,100 from the Gabion Repair & Maintenance NRCS EWP project to the Ditch Maintenance Program - NRCS EWP project due to the increased costs related to stormwater drainage cleanup . Both of these projects are funded by a grant from the Emergency Watershed Protection Program. There is no net change in net position. Risk Fund Item (A) Increase transfer out budget by $58 ,000 for the Risk Fund 's portion of the modular vehicle barrier system . The cost of the modular vehicle barrier system was $138 ,000 with Risk funding $58 ,000 and the Law Enforcement Impact Fee funding $80 ,000. This results in a decrease in net position. IT Services Fund Item (C) Increase the capital equipment expense budget by $45 ,000 and the operating expense budget by $82 ,000 on the Network Infrastructure Upgrades project , decrease the capital equipment budget by $50,000 on the Citywide Security Camera project , and decrease the capital expense budget by $27 ,000 for the purchase of replacement network servers with a five-year support contract. This results in a $50 ,000 decrease in net position . Item (D) Increase capital expense budget by $47 ,000 for the City of Dunedin Commission Chambers Wireless Microphone System project. This purchase was not included in the FY 2026 budget. This results in a decrease of $47 ,000 in net position . Mr . Tyler advised : Attachment C to the Staffing Report shows the Estimated Available Fund Balance ; the impact on funds that have available funds impact, it shows the beginning amount and the projected ending balances. All funds meet or exceed their reserve target levels with the exception of the Stormwater Fund , which is less than the target of 25% ; it was planned in the budget as the City has been actively and successfully getting grants to help cover costs for some of the larger stormwater projects as a result of Hurricanes Helene and Milton . Capital Projects were included in the budget to assist with compliance with the grants, which require having the projects in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for applying. There is no plan to begin some of those projects until it is known the grants are awarded in some cases . Also , some debt financing will be done over the next couple of years for stormwater projects. Questions for Staff Vice Mayor Walker clarified with Mr. Tyler the Water/Wastewater Fund. Item (B) bid came in significantly over the budget. Commissioner Sandbergen verified with Mr . Tyler in the Marina Fund , Item E, to date , the credit line has not been accessed . It will be drawn down soon for the east bulkhead project; it is being monitored closely . The $43 ,000 is the estimated budget of what staff thinks would draw down ; luckily , at this point it was not drawn down as early as thought. 26-6

Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2026 Dunedin City Commission Commissioner Dugard inquired about the Water/Wastewater Fund Item (B) . Utilities & Engineering Director Watkins explained : The way the project was awarded was with some bid alternatives in the contract due to finding the condition of the concrete and if there would need to be any repairs . A base contract was awarded but left some of the bid alternates out of the award . Commissioner Dugard asked if it was correct the initial bid was $2 ,000 ,915 and what he was looking at was an additional $1.4 Mill ion so , now it is looking at something close to $5 Million. Mr . Watkins explained the $1 .5 Million was that much over the budgeted amount of what was thought the project was cost ; it is not a total add ; it is just the $1 .5 over. Publ ic Input Mayor Freaney opened the item to public input. Hearing and seeing no one wishing to speak , Mayor Freaney closed the public input. Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2026 Vice Mayor Walker : Dunedin City Commission Advised he attended the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA} Legislative Committee meeting on Wednesday and received information on how things stand with the property taxes . There is really nothing new except for the discussion about how the municipalities, they call it a "backfill option". This really only applies to the rural communities . His hope is there is some element of discussion that is going to be occurring in terms of that backfill in making the communities whole . There is a bit of optimism from the Lobbyist as there are still some off ramps . He emphasized the need to communicate and educate in collaboration with County partners and other municipalities . Expressed his pride in this community regarding Pride Month in Dunedin noting the love and energy at the Flag Raising that was overwhelming . He shared a story where inclusivity, togetherness and love can happen during his service in the Navy . Commissioner Sandbergen advised tomorrow night he will be attending the Blue Jays game following the Golf Cart Parade. Mayor Freaney: Commented on Pride Month , all the energy and all the community attending the Pride Flag Raising and expressed her pride in the inclusion of this community. Dunedin will always find a way to share that inclusivity that is very important. Advised she attended the Mayor's Council where the topic was about the property tax referendum. Everyone was in agreement regarding including in general the issue of Home Rule being under attack from Tallahassee. Now that it will be on the ballot , the Mayors all discussed the importance of education as objectively and impartially as possible. It will be up to the citizens to make an educated decision on what their communities look like and it is the job of the City to educate. At that meeting they also honored City Clerks from around the county ; City Clerk Wells attended with her and there was discussion of issues City Clerks deal with now especially with public records requests and so forth . Advised she will be doing interviews regarding the issue of property taxes , the first will be tomorrow with Bay New 9 and there will be others scheduled. She will do her best to communicate on the behalf of the City as fairly and objectively as possible about what the city will face based on the impacts of the legislation whichever way it goes . Related that Republican Senator Jeff Brandes for the State of Florida is in a non-partisan think tank and he is doing great things regarding the impacts of how this measure is not really that well thought out and gives a lot of views and concerns to share for people to think about. 4.b. City Clerk's Update City Clerk Wells expressed her appreciation for the support at the Mayor's Council. 4.c. City Manager's Update SUPPLEMENT: A. Marina Update City Manager Bramley advised the response to the request for an update on the Marina and the repairs was provided with the PowerPoint presentation attached to the agenda available to the public . Utilities & Engineering Director Watkins reviewed the PowerPoint , Marina Repair Update : East and North Bulkheads , Fishing Pier, and Docks A & B, and provided comments on each aspect , as noted. 26-11

Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2026 Dunedin City Commission East Bulkhead Updates - Page 2 - Ongoing and Outstanding Work North Bulkhead Updates - Page 3 - May 18 - 22 Work ; Work Outstanding East Bulkhead Updates - Page 4 - Contract Document & Updated Layout • Change Order expected: • Dock utility relocation future A and B floating docks • Additional electrical conduits to supply both docks • Sanitary sewer force main • Existing light pole removal and reinstallation Bulkhead Repair Schedule - Page 5 - Dates provided Mr . Watkins noted the Contractor's most recent schedule has them with a completion date of August 25 th with final completion in September. Staff is looking for an updated schedule and hopefully a little recovery to try to cut that time so as not to be looking at late AugusUSeptember for final completion . Fishing Pier Update - Page 6 - Details provided • USACOE permit has not been issued • Some comments were received in late March with a response to those in early April. Docks A & B Design Update - Page 7 - Designer : Kimely-Horn • Preparing USACOE submittal package • Targeted completion mid-June • Scheduling of USACOE pre-application meeting Mr . Watkins explained one issue for the meeting is to make sure there is no confusion with other projects submitted inside the marina leaving the fishing pier separate from the Dock A permit which will include all the revisions seen in the Master Plan which will cut down on time for future phases. • Creating a list of comparable marinas to visit (July) • City of Dunedin to see and evaluate the different dock systems and technologies as used locally • Marina / dock site visits expected in July / August Marina Master Plan - Page 8 • Docks layout being finalized with the Dock A & B designed • Master Plan update presentation expected in AugusUSeptember Other Items - Page 9 • Commercial Dock Lighting • Bump Pump Out - FDEP grant Commission Questions Vice Mayor Walker clarified with Mr. Watkins that the Contractor is behind schedule and will not be able to deliver the project in the timeframe initially agreed upon ; after the final completion date of the contract June 30 th the indemnity part of this can be started. Mr . Watkins commented on the reasons for being behind schedule. Vice Mayor Walker referred to the fishing pier and noted with Mr . Watkins the County has a role in the permitting process and that has been obtained . 26-12

Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2026 Dunedin City Commission Vice Mayor Walker verified with Mr . Watkins that there will be a better idea of the alternatives for the docks in the July/August timeframe. There will be 5 different visits to various marinas scheduled for each member of the Commission . Commissioner Sandbergen discussed with Mr. Watkins the disposition of the posts at the fishing pier that will be replaced, noting they are trying to get as much work done landward as possible. Commissioner Sandbergen inquired about the sign referring to Bon Appetit and Old Bay and City Manager Bramley explained that was from the CRA / Economic Development request that there be an indication those businesses were open . Commissioner Dugard referred to the fishing pier and expectations for delivery . Mr . Watkins advised the hope was to have it this month ; however , he was not sure and responded to the question of this calendar year with "maybe "; he was aware the hope was to have it for the Boat Parade . Commissioner Dugard noted at some Marina Advisory Committee meetings there were some concerns there might be delays by processes that , in his opinion, were not even connected , including the selection of floating docks and so forth that really is not connected to the completion of the marina and pier ; it is actually a phase of improvement. Mr . Watkins responded stating with those conversations at the Marina Advisory Comm itt ee ; he thought many were in terms of are fixed cheaper than floating and so forth. He was attempting to project to everyone that staff wants to get the Corps permit that is a long lead that could be 18 to 24 months ; as long as there is the general layout of what the City wants to come in for , if a pile moves here and there going through the process , those changes can happen after a round of comments and make those changes. Commissioner Dugard commented regarding the difference in the restoration and the improvements in terms of the Strategic Plan that needs to be made clear to the Marina Advisory Committee . City Manager Bramley advised the marina to be open and operating . She explained there are vessels in and out. There are times supposedly on Docks A & B when it was under active construction her understanding was the Contractor made accommodations for owners to get to their vessels . Docks A & B will need to close in order to repair in the future . It should be clear the marina has been open and operating for about a year and half. 4.d. City Attorney's Update SUPPLEMENT: A. Request for Conflict Waiver City Attorney Cowan referred to the Supplement attached to the agenda , Conflict Waiver and explained : The City was noticed of a foreclosure action going on between PNC Bank vs. John Garrett. The City currently has a Code Enforcement lien recorded aga in st the property. Bryant Miller Ol ive (BMO) represents the City as City Attorney. BMO also represents PNC Bank in an unrelated matter . There is no dispute the City has an inferior lien ; however, she does have an obl igation under the Florida Bar rules to advise the City of the conflict. As long as the conflict of interest is something that is believed to be reasonable and the representation will not adversely affect either the City or PNC and the City consents to a written consent as to the representation, then BMO can proceed . PNC has already given consent to this . If there were any other changes in the case that would bring about some 26-13

>> Mayor Freaney: GOOD EVENING. WELCOME TO THE JUNE 6, 2026 COMMISSION MEETING. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE OUR CITY ATTORNEY DO THE INVOCATION, THEN WE'RE GOING TO HAVE GEORGE WASHINGTON COME UP HERE AND LEAD US IN THE PLEDGE. WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE, WE KNOW YOU CAME A LONG WAY THROUGH TIME. >> THIS IS MY FAVORITE COLONY. >> LET'S BEGIN THIS MEETING BY TAKING A BRIEF MOMENT OF SILENCE AND REFLECTION. [ MOMENT OF SILENCE ] >> AMEN. GENERAL? >> I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. >> THANK YOU FOR PROPERLY ADDRESSING ME. >> Mayor Freaney: I APOLOGIZE. I SAID GEORGE AND I SHOULD HAVE SAID GENERAL. I APOLOGIZE. OUR FIRST ITEM IS AMERICA 250 PROCLAMATION, AND DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE SIGNING, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO VICE MAYOR WALKER WHO IS OUR VETERAN. I DON'T THINK YOU SERVED BACK THEN, RIGHT? >> NO, BUT I HAVE PEOPLE THAT DID. >> Mayor Freaney: OKAY, GOOD. >> THAT'S TRUE. GENERAL WASHINGTON, DO YOU WANT TO COME UP TO THE PODIUM WITH YOUR STAFF? >> WE'RE VERY HONORED TO BE HERE, MAYOR, VICE MAYOR, COMMISSION. WE'RE VERY HONORED TO BE HERE. SORRY ABOUT THAT, OH, WELL. GOT IT. WE'RE VERY HONORED TO BE HERE, MAYOR, VICE MAYOR, COMMISSION, AND PARTICIPATE IN THE DECLARATION OF THE INDEPENDENCE SIGNING. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT. MANY OF YOU PROBABLY KNOW THIS, THAT DECLARATION, THE SIGNATURE, IT WAS SO IMPORTANT FOR WASHINGTON, BECAUSE HE HAD 20,000 TROOPS WHEN HE STARTED. IT WAS DWINDLING LIKE CRAZY, BEFORE WE WON HIS FIRST BATTLE HE WAS DOWN TO 6,000. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE ONCE IT WAS SIGNED THEY READ IT ALL OVER, AND IT MOTIVATED -- BACK THEN IT WAS ONLY MEN -- TO COME FORTH AND FIGHT. THAT WAS AN IMPORTANT DOCUMENT. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER, ONLY 30 TO 40% OF THE COUNTRY WAS BEHIND WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY HAD 30 TO 40% THAT DIDN'T CARE, AND A BUNCH OF LOYALISTS IN BRITAIN, IN ENGLAND. >> THANK YOU FOR THAT. ONE OF THE DUTIES I HAVE IS BEING A LIAISON WITH THE HISTORIC MUSEUM. THEY DO SO MUCH FOR THIS COMMUNITY. I WANT TO ASK, ARE THERE ANY SONS OR DAUGHTERS FROM THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION IN THE AUDIENCE? MELISSA? [ APPLAUSE ] >> I MAY ADD OUR VICE MAYOR IS A SON OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION. >> 250thA ANNIVERSARY OF THE AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE. IN 1776, THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE ASSERTED THE RIGHT OF THE 13 COLONIES. THE BOLD DECLARATION LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR A NEW NATION BUILT ON THE PRINCIPLES OF LIBERTY, DEMOCRACY AND JUSTICE. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA HAS GROWN FROM A FLEDGLING REPUBLIC THAT CONTINUALLY STRIVES TO UPHOLD THESE FOUNDATIONAL IDEALS. AND IN THE YEAR 2026, THE UNITED STATES WILL KBHEM RATE ITS 250th ANNIVERSARY, ALSO KNOWN AS THE SEMI SEMI-QUINNCENTENNIAL. AS WE COMMEMORATE THIS SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE, AMERICANS SHOULD WORK TOGETHER IN ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES OF THE 21st CENTURY, IN BUILDING A MORE EQUITABLE AND PROSPER AS SOCIETY. WHEREAS NATIONWIDE CELEBRATIONS AND EVENTS WILL BE ORGANIZED TO ENGAGE CITIZENS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE. THESE ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE HISTORICAL RE-ENACTMENTS, PUBLIC DISCUSSIONS AND FORUMS, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE INITIATIVES. AND WHEREAS AS THE UNITED STATES EMBARKS ON THE NEXT CHAPTER OF HISTORY, THIS MILESTONE CELEBRATION WILL STAND AS A TESTAMENT TO THE STRENGTH, RESILIENCE AND DETERMINATION OF ITS PEOPLE. I, WILLIAM JAMES WALKER BY THE MAYOR OF THE GREAT CITY OF DUNEDIN, FLORIDA, DO HEAR BY PROCLAIM JULY 4th, 2026, THE 250th ANNIVERSARY OF OUR NATION'S INDEPENDENCE. AS WE RECOGNIZE, CELEBRATE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF DIVERSE COMMUNITIES IN SHAPING OUR NATION'S IDENTITY, AND PLEDGE TO CONTINUE FOSTERING A MUTUAL OFFERING OF RESPECT. WE ARE CONFIRMED TO OUR COMMITMENT TO LIBERTY AND DEMOCRACY. HONORING THOSE THAT FOUGHT FOR THIS. AND THOSE IN THE FUTURE. THIS PROCLAMATION WILL SERVE AS A REMINDER OF OUR NATION'S ENDURING SPIRIT AND CALL TO ACTION. AS THE UNITED STATES EMBARKS ON ITS NEXT CHAPTER OF HISTORY. THE MILESTONE CELEBRATION WILL STAND AS A TESTAMENT TO THE STRENGTH, RESILIENCE AND DETERMINATION OF ITS PEOPLE. [ APPLAUSE ] >> Mayor Freaney: GENERAL, DID YOU WANT TO SAY ANYTHING BEFORE WE START THE PROCESS? I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND TELL THEM WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO. >> ABSOLUTELY. SO WHEN GEORGE WASHINGTON -- HE HAD A LOT OF FAILURES IN BATTLES, AND THERE'S A LOT OF LIFE LESSONS IF YOU STUDY HIM. HE HAD A STRONG STAFF UNDER HIM THAT HE TRUSTED MUCH LIKE ALL OF YOU. I KID A LOT TONIGHT, BUT IT'S JUST LIKE YOU, AND THAT STAFF KEPT THEIR CONFIDENCE IN HIM, AND THEY -- ACTUALLY MANY OF THE -- INCLUDING JOHN ADAMS WANTING TO GET THROUGH -- GET RID OF HIM WHEN THEY WERE AT VALLEY FORGE. THEY DECIDED IF THEY GOT RID OF HIM, ALL THE SOLDIERS WERE GOING TO QUIT. THEY WEREN'T BEING PAID, BEING FED WELL, AND SOME OF THEM DIDN'T HAVE SHOES. HE DETERMINED IF THEY COULD GO TO TRENTON, DIVIDED INTO THREE POINTS OF ATTACK, TWO OF THEM AS THEY WENT ACROSS THE RIVER, HIS GROUP MADE IT WITH HIM LEADING. 24 OF THEM TOOK DOWN 900 THAT HAD HIGH GROUND AND THEY HAD SUPERIOR CANNONS MUCH IF HE WOULDN'T HAVE WON THAT BATTLE WE WOULDN'T HAVE A COUNTRY RIGHT NOW. THAT WOULD HAVE TURNED THE WAR, SO IT'S SO IMPORTANT, AND WHAT YOU GUYS DO DAY TO DAY HERE, IT'S MUCH LIKE THAT. WE APPRECIATE THE CITIZENS OF DUNEDIN, THE HISTORY MUSEUM, IT'S SO IMPORTANT WHAT YOU DO HERE DAY TO DAY, AND THIS BRINGS FORTH THAT. WE'RE SO THANKFUL, THAT'S WHY WE WANT TO HAVE THIS SIMPLIFIED. WE HAVE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HERE, STATE REPRESENTATIVES, OTHER STATE PEOPLE, SO WE'RE REALLY HONORED TO DO THIS TONIGHT. YOU WANT TO SET US UP, MADISON? >> BEFORE I DO, GENERAL. I'M READING A BOOK ON HISTORY RIGHT NOW. IT APPEARS YOU ALSO SET THE TONE. YOU SET A TONE BY DOING TWO TERMS AS PRESIDENT, AND YOU SET A TONE IN A LOT OF OTHER WAYS, YOU KNEW PRESIDENTS TO FOLLOW. >> I DID NOT WANT TO DO THE SECOND TERM. >> I DID NOT SEE THAT PART. >> I DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT, BUT WHEN I SAW SOME OF THE CANDIDATES, I SAID WHOA! I GOT TO COME DO ANOTHER TERM >> Mayor Freaney: YEAH. THAT MAY BE MY DECIDING FACTOR WHEN I DECIDE TO RUN FOR RE-ELECTION. WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO HERE IS, WE'RE GOING TO DO DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE SIGNING, I KNOW AS MAYOR, I'M HONORED ENOUGH TO DO THE JOHN HANCOCK SIGNATURE. AFTER MYSELF WILL BE VICE MAYOR WALKER, COMMISSIONER GOW, COMMISSIONER DUGARD, COMMISSIONER SANDBERGEN. WE'RE HONORED TO HAVE DAVE EGGERS HERE, AND COMMISSIONER BRIAN SCOTT AND ALSO FELLOW FORWARD PINELLAS MEMBER -- ACTUALLY VICE CHAIR HERE, WE'RE HONORED TO HAVE YOU HERE, AND ALSO, WE'RE HONORED TO HAVE KIM BEERFIELD HERE, AND SO SHE'S BACK THERE. I SEE HER, AND SO SHE'LL SIGN THEN. OKAY, SO MADISON, DO YOU WANT TO GUIDE US THROUGH IT ALL? >> YES. >> I SHOULD COME DOWN? >> YES. >> ONE AT A TIME OR ARE WE FORMING A LINE? >> ONE AT A TIME. >> AS YOU KNOW I'VE BECOME VERY PROGRESSIVE, WE ALLOW WOMEN TO SIGN. >> Mayor Freaney: YOU DID WANT TO BE HERE TONIGHT, DIDN'T YOU? >> YES. IF THE GENERAL ONLY KNEW THE WOMEN WOULD BE TAKING OVER? >> HERE'S A SIMPLE FACT ABOUT GENERAL WASHINGTON. HE HAD REAL TEETH, MADE TEN TOURS OUT OF -- THEY WERE TEETH FROM PEOPLE, NOT ALL HIS OWN. NOT WOODEN AS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. >> THAT'S A GREAT THOUGHT. >> I WISH YOU HAD STARTED WITH THE FACT THAT HE WAS A GOOD DANCER. >> HE WAS A GOOD DANCER, AND IN HIS DAY, HE WAS 6'2", HE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE -- LIKE IF YOU CONSIDER TOM BRADY, YOU WHY THE ULTIMATE ATHLETIC PERSON, THAT'S WHO HE WAS IN THE DAY. YEAH. SOME ARTICLES WROTE YOU DO NOT TOUCH WASHINGTON IN BATTLE, YOU DO NOT SHOOT HIM, STAB HIM. >> Mayor Freaney: COMMISSIONER SANDBERGEN? YOU TOOK SAM ADAMS? IF YOU TOOK SAM ADAMS, THAT'S ALL WE NEED TO KNOW. COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIR, DAVE EGGERS? >> COUNTY COMMISSIONER EGGERS, I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU'VE BUILT, WE GET OUR SOLDIERS NORTH AND SOUTH WHEN WE NEED TO. >> Mayor Freaney: WE HAVE COMMISSIONER SCOTT? THE ROUND ABOUTS WERE TRICKY FOR THE TROOPS. >> THE CARRIAGES HAVE PROBLEMS. >> IT'S OKAY, MOST PEOPLE GO RIGHT OVER THEM ANYWAY. >> Mayor Freaney: GENERAL, DID YOU BRING THE HOMEMADE WHISKEY WE'RE HAVING AFTER THE SIGN SOMETHING. >> YEAH, YEAH. >> Mayor Freaney: REPRESENTATIVE KIMBERLY BEERFIELD. >> THIS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR CITIZENS OF OUR COLONY TO SIGN IN BOTH CITY HALL HERE, THE LIBRARY AND THE MUSEUM, AND THE DATES ARE ON OUR WEBSITE, RIGHT? AND THEN WE'RE ALSO HAVING ON JUNE 20th, FROM 11:00 ON, WE'RE NOT ONLY HAVING A REEN-ENACTMEN AT THE CHAPEL, BUT A WHOLE EVENT OVER THERE TOO. THANKS FOR GETTING US STARTED. I CAN NOW GET MORE SOLDIERS IN MY ARMY. WE HAVE TO GET THAT AROUND. >> LET'S GET A PICTURE, GENERAL. LET'S GET COMMISSIONER EGGERS AND SCOTT AND REPRESENTATIVE BEERFIELD AS WELL. [ APPLAUSE ] >> Mayor Freaney: THANKS A LOT, GENERAL, AND WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THE MUSEUM IS DOING. WE NOW SIGNED A LIVING DECLARATION. THANKS FOR BEING HERE. >> Mayor Freaney: BEFORE WE GO TO THE LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH PROCLAMATION. I DID A SEPARATE PROCLAMATION TO THE APHASIA GROUP THAT MEETS THE ATHE HALE CENTER. NEXT YEAR I WANT TO DO THAT AS PART OF THE MEETING. IT'S AN ACQUIRED DISORDER DUE TO STROKE OR OTHER BRAIN INJURY. THERE'S A ROOM FULL OF INDIVIDUALS WITH APHASIA, VERY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE, HAD GREAT CAREERS. STILL MAY HAVE GOOD CAREERS, DIFFERENT TYPE WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY SPEECH, BUT THEIR INTELLECT IS COMPLETELY THERE, IT'S THAT -- I THINK THE AWARENESS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ALL TAKE PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING AND REALIZE THEY ARE THE SAME AS THEY WERE. AND IT HAPPENED IN A SECOND, TO ANY OF US, WE'LL HAVE MORE AWARENESS ON THAT NEXT YEAR. TWO THINGS THAT CAME OUT, THE AWARENESS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT FOR TRANSPORTATION. AND APPARENTLY PSTA DOES A GREAT JOB WITH TRANSPORTATION IN THAT REGARD, ALSO, JUST AWARENESS THROUGH THE POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENTS, MANY INDIVIDUALS DO DRIVE, AND IF THEY ARE STOPPED FOR SOME REASON, THEY MAY HAVE TROUBLE BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE. SO I THINK OUR SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT DOESN'T DO THAT, HASN'T DONE SOME OF THE TRAINING WITH VOICES OF HOPE WHO IS THE GROUP. AND I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR US TO -- I THINK SHERIFF GAULTIERRI IS ALSO FUN. I HAVE THE CARD OF THE WOMAN THAT RUNS THAT PARTICULAR GROUP. ANYWAY, ANYONE ELSE -- WHO WAS THERE THIS MORNING, ANYONE? JUST NICOLE, PROBABLY? IT WAS HUMBLING, IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYBODY, AND IT'S IMPORTANT TO EVERYONE. STILL PEOPLE, JUST MAY TAKE A LITTLE MORE PATIENCE ON OUR SIDE. WE'RE GOING TO GO TO THE LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH PROCLAMATION. I'M TURNING THAT OVER TO COMMISSIONER DUGARD. >> THANK YOU, MAYOR. JASON, KIMBERLY, WOULD YOU COME ON DOWN? IT'S SO GOOD TO SEE YOU AS MUTED AS YOU ARE. >> THAT'S RIGHT. >> I WILL BE READING THE PROCLAMATION, AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE TIME FOR COMMENT. SOUND GOOD? >> PERFECT. >> VERY GOOD. WHEREAS ALL ARE WELCOME IN THE CITY OF DUNEDIN TO LIVE, WORK, PLAY AND RETIRE. EVERY FAMILY DESERVES A PLACE TO CALL HOME WHERE THEY ARE SAFE, HAPPY, AND SUPPORTED BY FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS, AND WHEREAS A NUMBER OF LGBTQ+ HISTORICAL EVENTS AND PEOPLE OF ALL RACES HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE HISTORY OF EQUALITY FOR ALL PEOPLE. AND WHEREAS EACH YEAR, THE MONTH OF JUNE, HONORS THE 1969 STONEWALL RIOTS IN MANHATTAN, AND THE STRUGGLE FOR BASIC CIVIL RIGHTS FOR THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY. TO REMIND ALL CULTURES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY THE BROADER ROLES LGBTQ+ PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN IN SHAPING THE HISTORICAL, POLITICAL AND LEGAL WORLDS WE LIVE IN TODAY. PRIDE MONTH AFFORDS A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE HISTORY. AND HONOR THE MANY AMERICAN LEADERS WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROGRESS OF OUR NATION. WHEREAS THE CITY OF DUNEDIN HAS A STRONG HISTORY OF HONORING INCLUSIVITY, WE VALUE THE CONTRIBUTIONS THE LGBTQ+ CITIZENS BRING TO THE CITY AND PRIDE OURSELVES ON DIVERSITY, AND THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY HAS MADE GREAT STRIDES FORWARD, BUT EQUALITITY, EVERYONE COLLUSION AND ACCEPTANCE HAVE NOT BEEN FULLY ACHIEVED. WE MUST PRACTICE THESE AND TEACH THEM TO FUTURE GENERATIONS, I TOM DUGARD, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUNEDIN, FLORIDA, DO HERE BY PROCLAIM JUNE 26, TO BE LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH IN OUR COMMUNITY OF DUNEDIN. AND CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY. TO CONTINUE BUILDING A CULTURE OF INCLUSIVENESS AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY. >> THANK YOU. [ APPLAUSE ] >> I'M A LITTLE CHOKED UP. THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN TOO EASY FOR ME. THANK YOU MAYOR, VICE MAYOR, COMMISSIONERS. MY NAME IS KIMBERLY PLAT, I'M THE PRESIDENT OF THE NEWLY FORMED DEAN PRIDE ORGANIZATION. OUR FAITHFUL LAN, PROUD ORGANIZ. EACH DAY HAS BROUGHT NEW WINS FOR US. OUR PARTNER BUSINESSES ARE PROUD OF WHAT THEY'VE DONE SO FAR. WE HAVE 20 MORE EVENTS THIS MONTH ON THE CALENDAR, AND THERE'S ONLY 26 MORE DAYS IN THE MONTH. THINK ABOUT THAT. WE DO HAVE A CALENDAR WE WILL LEAVE IF ANYBODY WANTS IT. IT'S ALSO ON OUR FACEBOOK AND WEBSITE. A GOOD NUMBER OF THE BUSINESSES DOWNTOWN ARE SUPPORTING AND HOSTING EVENTS. THERE'S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. IN ADDITION THIS WEEK, JASON AND I ATTENDED FUNCTIONS AN INDIVISIBLE PINELLAS MEETING AT ST. MARKS CHURCH. THIS MORNING BY INVITE, WE WERE HONORED TO ASK TO BECOME GRATIS. WE SHOWCASED WHAT WE'RE DOING AT THE CHAMBER PRIDE LUNCHEON. THAT WAS KIND OF A BIG DEAL TODAY. IT WAS AT HARD ROCK CASINO, SO WE GOT THESE HATS, AND WE'RE NOT JUST TRYING TO LOOK LIKE OUR SUPER SUPPORTER STEVE BADEY, WHO IS NOW GEORGE WASHINGTON. HERE WE ARE. WE LIKE TO BE LIKE STEVE, BECAUSE HE'S A FANTASTIC GUY. THE LUNCHEON GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES AND BRAND TO ALL THE OTHER PRIDE FESTIVAL ADMINISTRATORS AROUND PINELLAS. THE SPEAKERS GAVE US TWO SHOUT OUTS WHICH WE WERE NOT EXPECTING AT ALL. THEY REPEATED OUR WORDS OF HOW INCLUSIVE DUNEDIN IS. IT WAS SUPER HUMBLING TO BE SITTING THERE, BEING FIRST TIME ATTENDEES AND THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT DUNEDIN A LOT, AND IT WAS ALL POSITIVE, THAT REALLY WAS HUMBLING TODAY. SO WE'VE HAD A VERY BIG DAY TODAY. WE HAD THE CHILLS AND WE FELT LIKE WE JUST GOT HERE, HOW IS THIS HAPPENING. ALSO, WE'VE BEEN HERE FOR A LONG TIME. WE KNOW THESE OPPORTUNITIES WILL OPEN DOORS AND CONTINUE CONVERSATIONS TO HELP US AND HELP YOU ALL NAVIGATE THE POTENTIAL CHANGES IN LAWS, WHICH MAY PROHIBIT YOUR SUPPORT IN THE FUTURE, WE CANNOT WAIT TO MEET WITH YOU ALL AND DISCUSS THE NEW THINGS WE'VE LEARNED SO FAR. SO THERE'S HOPE, AND THE FUTURE IS POSITIVE. THE TURNOUT TO EACH OF OUR DUNEDIN PRIDE EVENTS SO FAR HAS BEEN HUMBLING AND RECORD BREAKING. WE'RE CONFIDENT WE WILL CONTINUE TO BRING THE SUPPORT AND PEOPLE TO DUNEDIN, JUST LIKE WE KNOW, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, YOU, MAYOR AND COMMISSIONERS WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO BRING SUPPORT TO US, AND WE THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH >> Mayor Freaney: THANK YOU VERY MUCH. [ APPLAUSE ] >> I DID NOT PREPARE A SPEECH, I SPOKE AT FLAG RAISING, THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME. >> Mayor Freaney: BEFORE WE TAKE A PICTURE, I WANT TO MAKE A COUPLE COMMENTS. THE FLAG RAISING WAS SUNDAY, HOW MANY WERE THERE? IT WAS WONDERFUL. MY FAVORITE PART ALWAYS IS THE -- LITERALLY JUST ALL THE CHURCHES THAT COME OUT. I MEAN, IT'S JUST AMAZING, IT'S SO DUNEDIN, I LOVE IT SO MUCH, TALK ABOUT GETTING EMOTIONAL, I MEAN, THAT'S A DAY YOU CAN REALLY GET EMOTIONAL, THAT'S WHAT INCLUSIVITY IS ALL ABOUT, AT THE PRIDE FLAG RAISING, I MADE THE COMMENT AS MAYOR, THAT I THINK ONE OF OUR MOST IMPORTANT TRAITS IS OUR INCLUSIVITY. I LOOKED IT UP IN THE DICTIONARY. AND IT SAYS IT IS THE INTENTIONAL ACTIVE PRACTICE OF ENSURING ALL INDIVIDUALS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR BACKGROUND, IDENTITY OR ABILITY TO FEEL VALUED, RESPECTED AND EMPOWERED TO PARTICIPATE. AND THAT IS DUNEDIN. ONLY IN DUNEDIN STYLE AS WELL EVERYONE ON THIS COMMISSION WAS THERE SUNDAY, SUPPORTIVE, WE KNOW THAT'S WHO WE ARE, WE'RE PROUD OF THAT. I HAVE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE CHAMBER FOR THE YEARS THEY DID PRIDE, BUT KIM AND JASON, YOU GUYS HAVE JUST BLOWN IT OUT OF THE BALLPARK, YOU'RE DOING AN AMAZING JOB, AND OUR BUSINESSES ARE JUST, YOU KNOW, REALLY ON BOARD, SO REMEMBERING, THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT PRIDE, BUT IT'S ALSO JUST -- IT'S ECONOMIC SO WE WANT TO SUPPORT ALL OF , - THAT. THANKS FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE. I MEAN, YOU'VE DONE JUST A PHENOMENAL JOB. SO THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. >> WE'RE ALL ABOUT BRINGING PEOPLE TO DUNEDIN. THIS WEEK, THE TWO MEETINGS WE WENT TO. I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU HOW PROUD WE ARE. THANK YOU ALL. >> Mayor Freaney: LET'S GET A PICTURE. >> Mayor Freaney: THANK YOU FOR BEING A SPONSOR. YOU HAVE SURPASSED TIME. YOU KNOW WHAT'S IN NOW. WE'RE GOING TO GO TO RECOGNITION OF THE 2026 SENIOR HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES. I'M GOING TO CALL UP NICOLE WHO RUNS THE HALE CENTER. AND CINDY COLE COMMITTEE ON AGING CHAIR. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO YOU ALL. >> YOU'RE GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO US? >> YES. >> MY NAME IS NICOLE ALLEN, I'M THE RECREATION COORDINATOR, I STAND ALONGSIDE HERE WITH CINDY COLE, THE CHAIRPERSON ON AUJING. I WANTED TO GIVE YOU A BACKGROUND INTO WHAT THE SENIOR HALL OF FAME IS, THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND INTRODUCE THIS YEAR'S TWO INDUCTEES. THE CITY OF DUNEDIN COMMITTEE ON AGING INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS INTO THE SENIOR HALL OF FAME. THE LUNCHEON WAS HELD ON WEDNESDAY MAY 6th AT THE HALE SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER. THE CITY OF DUNEDIN AND THE COMMITTEE ON AGING PROUDLY RECOGNIZES ALLEN KYNES AND ERIC HOUGHTON. AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE AND WELCOME ALLEN AND ERIC UP TO THE PODIUM. TO SAY A FEW WORDS. >> WHO'S FIRST? >> Mayor Freaney: WELL, WE KNOW HIM AS SAINT ALLEN KYNES. >> SO YOU WANT US TO TALK? >> Mayor Freaney: ABSOLUTELY, THIS IS IT. >> I WAS ASKED TO BRING BACK MY AWARD. I THOUGHT BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A MISTAKE THEY HAD MADE. ACTUALLY, THEY JUST SAID WE'RE GOING TO REAWARD IT TO YOU. SO I DID THAT BECAUSE I'VE BEEN TAUGHT BY DEBORAH TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS EXPLICITLY, AND WHEN I GOT HERE, ERIC SAID HE HAD FORGOTTEN IT BECAUSE OF HIS BUSY SCHEDULE. I SAID I WOULD EXPLAIN TO EVERYONE HIS AWARD LOOKS SIMILAR TO THIS ONE, EXCEPT FOR THE NAME, THEY CHANGED THE NAME FOR HIS. THAT'S WHAT HE WILL BE GETTING IF HE HAD REMEMBERED TO BRING HIS AND WASN'T SO BUSY. I DID -- THEY DID SAY WE COULD TALK A LITTLE BIT, SO I BROUGHT A LITTLE BIT TO SAY. AND -- BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE OF A CERTAIN AGE TO QUALIFY FOR THIS AWARD, SO THAT GIVES YOU SOME LATITUDE IN THE THINGS YOU CAN ALSO BRING, SUCH AS PAPERS TO READ AND GLASSES TO READ IT WITH. IS AND WE SHALL BEGIN BY SAYING THANK YOU, MAYOR MOE AND VOICE MAYOR ROB AND COMMISSIONERS AND MANAGER JENNIFER, AND MADAM ATTORNEY AND MADAM CLERK. AND OTHER ESTEEMED INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE SURROUNDING ME IN THE BACK. THANK YOU FOR THIS -- AND THE COMMITTEE FOR AGING, I WANT TO THANK -- THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB, AND BY THE WAY, AT THE PRESENTATION THAT WAS ALREADY REFERRED TO, THERE WAS A WONDERFUL VIDEO OF OUR RESPECTIVE LIVES. MINE WAS SHORTER THAN HIS, NOT INDICATIVE OF AGE, IT WAS JUST BECAUSE ERIC'S IS SO DRAWN OUT AND HE'S DONE SO MANY THINGS THAT -- THEY WERE BEAUTIFULLY DNE AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT I'D LIKE TO THANK THE COMMITTEE ON AGING, AND I PARTICULARLY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE GIANT BASKET OF TREATS AND TREASURES THAT WE GOT. I MEAN, IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT, IT'S THIS LARGE AND WE'VE USED ALL OF THE TREATS AND TREASURES, AND YESTERDAY, JUST YESTERDAY WE'RE GOING TO ANOTHER EVENT AND USED THE BASKET, IT'S FANTASTIC. I'D LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THAT. IF ANYONE IS -- IT'S WONDERFUL, WE GOT THE BASKET TOO, AND IT'S VERY -- IT'S BEEN VERY HELPFUL. DEBORAH AND I GOT TO DUNEDIN IN 1979 AND WE DIDN'T KNOW ANYBODY. WE FOUND A HOUSE ON EDGEWATER THAT WAS FOR SALE FOR 92,500, AND WE HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR A LONG TIME FOR A HOUSE, WE HAD MARSHALLED OUR RESOURCES SO THAT WE HAD LIKE $30,000 WE COULD PUT INTO A HOUSE, AND THAT WASN'T QUITE ENOUGH, BUT JOHN McGINNIS SAID SINCE WE WERE YOUTHFUL AND SO DEDICATED TO THE COMMUNITY POTENTIALLY, HE WOULD HOLD MONEY. SO WE BOUGHT IT FOR 92,500. I WAS TRYING TO GET IT FOR CHEAPER, DEBORAH SAID, THE SUNSET IS COMING THROUGH ON THIS PINK FIREPLACE AND I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL YOU BUY IT. WE HAD SOME WONDERFUL NEIGHBORS IN FRAN AND JOHN AND THE WALKERS AND ALLEN AND INGRID WERE ALL AROUND THERE. THEY CAME OVER AND STARTED TO INTRODUCE US TO THE COMMUNITY WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THAT'S HOW YOU GET INVOLVED, IS BY YOUR NEIGHBORS, AND THE PEOPLE THAT YOU -- YOUR NEIGHBORS KNOW, AND SO THEY INTRODUCED ME TO BILL HALE. AD THEN BILL HALE AND KAREN WALKER SAID, WE NEED SOME PEOPLE ON THE BOARD OF THIS ARTS CENTER THING WE'RE DOING. RIGHT THEN, IT WAS THREE ROOMS AND A BATHROOM. AND THEY SAID, COME OVER FOR LUNCH. SOY WENT OVER AND IT WAS JUST BILL AND KAREN AND ME AND A BASKET OF FLOWERS AND A BOLT EL OF CHAMPAGNE IN THE HALLWAY, THAT'S ALL THEY HAD. THEY SAID, WE'D LIKE YOU TO BE ON THE BOARD. THAT STARTED THINGS OUT, AND I WENT ON THE BOARD, AND AFTER A LITTLE BIT THEY MADE ME THE PRESIDENT. AT ANY RATE, YOU DON'T SAY NO TO BILL HALE. AND THEN AFTER THAT, SOME FOLKS SAID, YOU NEED TO GO TO ROTARY. I WENT TO ROTARY. FILLED WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE ACTIVE IN THIS COMMUNITY. ONE OF THEM WAS BILL HUTTY. HE TOOK ME UNDER HIS WING, HE SAID I SHOULD GET INVOLVED IN THIS ROTARY THING. I SAID, OKAY, I'LL DO THAT. THEY IMMEDIATELY MADE ME THE SONG LEADER, WHICH I WAS FOR LIKE FOUR YEARS, AND THEN THEY SAID, WELL, YOU'VE DONE SUCH A GOOD JOB AS SONG LEADER WE'RE GOING TO MAKE YOU PRESIDENT. SO THEY DID THAT. THAT'S THE NATURAL PROGRESSION THAT HAPPENS TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. AFTER OUR KIDS -- WE HAD SOME KIDS, THEY'VE BEEN BORN IN THE SAME HOUSE ON EDGEWATER AND DEBORAH STARTED GETTING INVOLVED IN VOLUNTEER POSITIONS WITH THE CITY. AND SHE GOT ASSOCIATED WITH GUS COOPER AND JOHN LAWRENCE, AND TOM HENDERSON AND MOE FREANEY AND SOME OTHERS, AND THAT OPENED A LOT OF DOORS FOR US, AND SO THOSE DOORS OPENED, WE RAN INTO CITY ATTORNEY JOHN HUBBARD WHO WAS AGAIN A NEIGHBOR, JOHN SAID, I'M STARTING THIS LIBRARY FOUNDATION THING. WE THINK YOU SHOULD COME ON TO THAT. THAT WAS IN THE 1990s, AND I JOINED THAT, ALONG WITH DAVID ODAI AND JIMMY BROWN, AND AGAIN, IT'S LIKE BILL HALE, IT'S HARD TO SAY NO TO JOHN HUBBARD, BUT I DID THAT. AFTER A LITTLE BIT, DEBORAH DECIDED TO GET REALLY INVOLVED AND SHE GOT ELECTED, AND WHEN SHE GOT ELECTED, I WAS ASKED TO GET OFF ALL THE CITY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES I HAD BEEN ON, BECAUSE THERE WAS A CONFLICT OF THINGS. I COULDN'T DO THAT. THEY SAID, HERE'S PLAQUES, SO I GOT A LOT OF PLAQUES, CAN YOU DO OTHER THINGS IN YOUR COMMUNITY . SO I STARTED WORKING WITH HER DOING THINGS, AND DOING WHAT I'M TOLD. WE STARTED WORKING AGAIN, HOSTING THINGS FOR THE ARTS CENTER AND THE BOAT CLUB, AND THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION, AND ROTARY, AND BACK THEN IT WAS THE -- HISTORICAL SOCIETY, WHICH WE SOMETIMES SLIPPED AND HAD ANOTHER NAME FOR IT. IT WAS HYSTERICAL A LITTLE BIT SOCIETY. ONE TIME WE HAD A THING FOR THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY IN FEBRUARY, AND IN SEPTEMBER WE GOT A THANK YOU FROM THEM, AND THEY WERE MOST GRACIOUS, THE EFFICIENCY HAS IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY WITH THE GROUP THAT WE HAVE NOW. WE CONTINUE DOING THOSE THINGS, THE JUNIOR LEAGUE AND FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, AND, OF COURSE, DEBORAH'S THING WITH THE BAD GIRLS. WE STILL HOST THOSE THINGS. THERE'S NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS I HAVEN'T MENTIONED, I'VE FORGOTTEN, IT'S A FUNCTION OF AGE, WHICH IS A QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTIC FOR THIS AWARD. AND SO IF I DIDN'T MENTION YOU, IT'S BECAUSE OF THAT, AND NOT BECAUSE I DON'T APPRECIATE WHAT I'VE BEEN ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN WITH OTHER GROUPS. WE HAVE A CITY WHERE ACTIVITY FLOWS NATURALLY FROM YOUR NEIGHBORS, AND ALSO FLOWS FROM THE CITY STAFF, IT FLOWS FROM THE CITY OFFICIALS. EVERYONE IN THIS CITY IS INVOLVED IN SOMETHING ELSE, AND JUST AS IT STARTED WITH ME, WITH ONE THING WITH THE ARTS CENTER, AND THEN THE ROTARY BOARD, AND ALL THESE OTHER PEOPL
