The 30-second read

Record incomplete

The Crystal River City Council will meet to discuss and vote on a $136,500 budget appropriation for asbestos removal at 579 US Highway 19. This work is a required step in the city's ongoing project to demolish an unsafe structure at that location.

Why it matters

CRYSTAL RIVER CITY COUNCIL Agenda Item Summary Meeting Date: December 26, 2024 Agenda Item Number: 3.A. Requested Motion: Motion to adopt Resolution No. 25-R-08 appropriating funds in the amount of $136,500.00 for asbestos remediation associated with the demolition of the structure located at 579 US Highway 19, as proposed by Cross Construction Summary: In November of 2023 City Council entered into a "Cooperative Purchasing Agreement for Code Compliance Building Demolition and Unsafe Structure Securing Services" with Southern Exposure Construction, Inc. for the purposes of addressing the structure located at SE 579 US Highway 19. With legal processes related to abatement of the unsafe structure nearing the point of formalization of a demolition order, staff determined it was prudent to solicit formal quotes from Southern Exposure Construction, as well as Cross Construction (another demolition services provider for Citrus County that the City could potentially enter into a cooperative purchasing agreement with). Staff presented the two project-specific quotes to Council for discussion and consensus during the City Council meeting held November 12, 2024. Council authorized the Mayor to execute a Cooperative Purchasing Agreement with Cross Construction and selected Cross Construction Services (Option C, as presented) for Demolition Services associated with the property located at 579 US Hwy 19. Option C included the following additional items: Asphalt parking lot, curbs, lighting, ice machine and pre-demolition asbestos survey. Staff received the results of the asbestos survey (identifying the need for remediation) along with a remediation proposal in the amount of $136,500.00 (approximately $2.00/sq. ft). Staff is now seeking Council approval to appropriate the funds and move forward with remediation. Staff Recommendation: Adoption of Resolution No. 25-R-08 appropriating funds in the amount of $136,500.00 for asbestos remediation associated with the demolition of the structure located at 579 US Highway 19, as proposed by Cross Construction.
