Prior to the Superintendent making a recommendation to the Board, various departments (Financial Auditor, Title IX Coordinator, Purchasing, Student Athletics, Construction and Code Enforcement) reviewed each of the relative issues above to ensure that it is a good investment for Leon County School Board. A review of established standards is conducted to protect our students and the school district. Meeting Jun 16, 2026 - Business Meeting Category 19. Items for Consideration Type STAFF MEMBER REPORTING THIS ITEM/PHONE : Rod McQueen, Dr. Michelle Gayle, Tod Stupski, Kathy Sanders and Dr. Sunny Chancy ACTION REQUESTED : The Superintendent recommends, following a public hearing, approval of the resolution of the School Board of Leon County, Florida ordering and providing for the holding of a referendum election to determine if the electors in Leon County, Florida approve the renewal levy of one-half percent (0.5%) sales surtax in order to finance educational improvements and facilities; agreeing to comply with the provisions of Section 212.055(6), Florida Statutes, including the requirement that revenues collected be shared with eligible charter schools based on their proportionate share of total school district enrollment, providing certain other matters in connection therewith; and providing an effective date. ITEM SUMMARY: On April 28, 2026, The Board approved a resolution renewing the one-half-cent discretionary sales surtax, authorized by section 212.055(6), Florida Statutes. In that resolution, the Board explicitly acknowledged that revenues generated would be “shared with eligible charter schools based on their proportionate share of total school district enrollment”, as required by s.212.055(6). The ballot summary within that resolution more generally acknowledged this requirement. After Board approval, a question arose regarding whether s.212.055(6) requires explicit verbatim recitation within the ballot summary itself. In an abundance of caution, the School Board is being asked to reconsider and approve a revised resolution containing a ballot summary including the language quoted above. In all other respects, the resolution and attachment remain the same. DELIVERING SIGNATURE DOCUMENTS TO BOARD SECRETARY?
