What This Bill Would Do

Missouri counties are authorized to adopt an annual real property tax credit covering the total local property tax liability for eligible 100% disabled veterans owning primary residences valued at $500,000 or less, beginning January 1, 2027. Under the measure, counties and eligible property owners may individually to or out of the program, and tax credits carry over to surviving spouses under specific conditions.

Why it matters

Qualifying disabled veterans in counties that adopt the program could receive a full credit against local real property taxes on their primary residence, while non-participating counties will maintain current tax collection methods without alteration.
