Continue to expand the arts discipline of Dance to our VAPA Professional Development (PD) across content for District schools, as well as the other discrete arts disciplines. Plan to provide theater arts learning experiences to 8th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) middle school students at the schools where California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) data demonstrate a need for additional support in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. VAPA TOSAs will collaborate with 8th Grade ELA teachers to facilitate this experiential learning. The District Arts Team will also continue to provide more opportunities for diverse models of PD for District educators, who can bring this content back to their PLCs (professional learning community) and classrooms, where it positively affects children. PD includes staff meetings, department meetings, grade level meetings, and after-school PD opportunities in person, or via zoom. Funding is needed for these professional growth learning opportunities, as well as the hands-on materials and equipment used during lessons throughout the school year. The District continues to work on a deeper dive to bring virtual learning experiences to our students and will continue to leverage technology in traditional and virtual teaching and learning spaces, with emphasis on the expansion of the use of the Oculus devices and iPads procured from Arts Advancement Grants over the past two years. This plan continues the District's work, aligning the arts with content standards, English Language Development, Social Emotional Learning, New Pedagogies for Deep Learning, and Ethnic Studies, empowering teachers and students to learn and create across content and grade levels in the traditional and digital world.
