What This Bill Would Do
Insurers must notify a policy owner's about an impending lapse in life, disability, or long-term care insurance coverage at least 21 days before it takes effect. This requirement does not apply if the insurer uses an online notification system, has no record of an agent, or if the agent is employed by the insurer.
Insurance brokers receive advance warning of policy cancellations for clients, giving them an opportunity to intervene, while explicitly avoiding legal liability for the lapse itself.
- S826 is a Massachusetts legislative bill introduced in the 195th session by Senator Michael F. Rush. context
