(IN-PERSON) Category 6. CONSENT CALENDAR Type Action (Consent) Recommended Action It is recommended that the Governing Board approve the 2023-2024 School Plans for Student Achievement (SPSA) INTRODUCTION The School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) identifies evidence-based strategies to supplement core instruction to improve student academic achievement. SPSA's are aligned with the District's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) as strategies/activities are focused to support student achievement (goal 1), safe and healthy learning environments/school climate (goal 2), and meaningful partnerships (goal 3.) All SUSD schools receive Title I Funding to support their instructional program and must annually submit a school plan for board approval. Of all the District's schools, 10 sites were identified in April 2023 as Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) and will use their SPSA as the CSI plan. These CSI schools (Adams, Hamilton, El Dorado, Grunsky, Hazelton, Pulliam, Frederick, Stockton High, Victory, and Walton) have initiated the coordination of efforts with District departments/staff consultation. ANALYSIS In School Year 2022-2023, Schools reviewed their strategies along with their data to assess the implementation, effectiveness, significant programmatic and/or fiscal changes, and future changes. This process resulted in an evaluation of the prior and current SPSA program period and the update of the comprehensive needs assessment. To meet criteria as identified in Education Code, these foundational processes assisted school sites and the district to make data-driven decisions on modifications of strategies and budgetary needs. Past and current School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) have been made available for public access on the District's State and Federal webpage: https://www.stocktonusd.net/Page/10028 . Throughout the 2023-2024 School Year, school site's will monitor the implementation of their planned strategies/activities to account for staffing challenges of the instructional program (i.e., unfilled instructional assist vacancies), the availability of new professional development opportunities, and to allocate updated funding. This analysis may lead to modifications to the plans and refinement of strategies and expenditures. Modifications of the SPSA based on increases or decreases to the site's Title I funding allocation or the addition of new strategies/actions to the SPSA will be identified as significant/integral requiring presentation and approval by the board. State & Federal Programs staff and Educational Services (Site) Directors will support and provide oversight approval of a school site's SPSA relating to minor adjustments, such as expanding an existing strategy/action or reallocation of funds with the approval total Title I funding allocation. (IN-PERSON) Category 6. CONSENT CALENDAR Type Action (Consent) Recommended Action It is recommended that the Governing Board approve the utilization Next Generation Science Innovations to provide professional development, not to exceed $3,500.00. INTRODUCTION The Equitable Grading workshops partners with teachers to ask three main questions: 1)Is our grading system accurate, 2) is our grading system unbiased and 3) does our grading system engender hope for all students? Name: James Clark/Next Generation Science Innovations 7825 Chestnut Way Pleasanton, Ca 94588 (925)487-9025 ngsiteam1@gmail.com Nonprofit Agency: YES: NO:X ANALYSIS Equitable Grading is an incredibly important part of building more inclusive classrooms where students feel a rightful presence to be there and a sense of belonging to the class as well as the school community. However, Equitable Grading practices is only part of the discussion. Grading and assessment are closely linked. Are we assessing what we are actually teaching? Are we removing barriers to access the assessment questions for all learners and do students feel a sense of belonging to the class independent of their grade? As a writer for this year's CA NGSS professional learning series on assessment this has become the focus of our discussions. Throughout the workshop we ask teacher to explore their beliefs and understandings not only about grading but also the impact our grading system has on students, families and communities. We strongly advocate for sustainability over expediency meaning the shift to more equitable grading practices should be done through partnering with teachers and supporting the shift over a 2-3 year period. CONSENT CALENDAR Type Action (Consent) Recommended Action It is recommended that the Governing Board approve the agreement for professional design services with Verde Design for Stagg High School pool repairs INTRODUCTION Stagg High School athletic facilities were constructed approximately 13 years ago which included new playfields, baseball, and softball fields, a soccer field, a football stadium, and a new pool. The Pool is used by the school for its aquatics program and also over the years has been open to the public during the summer break. Stagg High School pool has become a vital asset to the District and community. Contract Awards - Contract Title Vendor Funding Source Contract Amount Stagg High School Pool Repairs Verde Design, Inc. General Fund $ 117,750.00 ANALYSIS On November 5, 2022, a 2-inch lateral irrigation line separated from the 6-inch mainline and flooded the pool with dirty muddy water. At the time the pool filtration system was in operation so damage may have been inflicted on the system. Because of the muddy waters entering the pool, the dirty water caused staining of the plaster and needed to be drained. Draining the pool caused additional damage to the plaster as it dried out and started cracking and is now in need of replacement. Facilities have contacted risk management to have the damage assessed by Keenan to determine if the District has a claim for reimbursement for the work that will need to take place. Verde Design is the Architect of Record for the award-winning design of the Stagg athletics complex. Verde will work with its consultants to create plans and oversee the construction/repairs.
