(Dr. Lin) Meeting Oct 23, 2025 - In-Person/Virtual Regular Board of Education Meeting Type Action Recommendation : Approve purchase of additional licenses for the Hacienda La Puente Adult Education, Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency Programs from Essential Education, to provide a comprehensive learning platform focused on High School Equivalency Preparation in English and Spanish to District Adult Education students, from November 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, for an amount not to exceed $20,700. Analysis : The Automotive Technician Program requires regular updates to its training fleet to provide students with the skills and knowledge demanded by today’s employers. The program’s current fleet has not been updated in over a decade, limiting students’ exposure to contemporary automotive technologies. The addition of the hybrid vehicle directly supports Hacienda La Puente Adult Education’s strategic initiative to expand instruction in hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) technology. This investment is part of a broader program update that includes new EV training systems and instructional modules designed to align with workforce demands for technicians trained in sustainable vehicle technology. The high-performance vehicle and the modern passenger sedan will broaden the range of training opportunities, offering students experience with both high-performance and modern passenger vehicles. Together, the vehicles ensure that students are trained on diverse automotive systems, making them more adaptable and employable upon program completion. The proposed purchases include: VENDOR MODEL CAR AMOUNT Got Cars? 2016 Toyota Prius or Hybrid Vehicle $20,000 Got Cars? 2004 Pontiac GTO or High-Performance Vehicle $19,000 Got Cars? 2019 Honda Accord or Modern Passenger Sedan $21,000 Competitive quotes were obtained to ensure fair pricing for all purchases. Analysis : In order to provide additional academic support and supplemental services to high school students, the District issued Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking qualified providers to deliver targeted intervention and enrichment services. The goal of the RFP was to identify vendors capable of offering high-quality, standards-aligned, in-person tutoring services to support student achievement and academic growth. Twelve (12) firms submitted proposals, which were evaluated by high school principals and District administration based on the criteria outlined in the RFP, including experience, service delivery model, staffing qualifications, and cost-effectiveness. The provider will deliver structured tutoring programs at the four comprehensive high schools and Valley Alternative School. They will conduct an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) style tutoring model, where students drop in for help and are guided in completing assignments from their classes. Based on the evaluation of submissions, District administration recommends awarding a contract to Tutor Partners, LLC, for the period of October 24, 2025 through June 30, 2026, for an amount not to exceed $198,500. Analysis : From time-to-time, the Transportation Department is unable to provide buses for home-to-school transportation or field trip services. It has been necessary for the District to contract services with third party charter carriers to ensure seamless transportation options for District students. Driver shortages industry-wide has forced staff to add service providers to the current list of approved vendors to finish out the school year. Staff is requesting Board approval to allow the District to contract with vendors, as detailed below to provide these services to the satisfaction of the District's Transportation Department.
