INTRODUCTION The mission of the AVID Program is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success and global society. As part of an AVID certified school students should be exposed to a college atmosphere through campus tours. They will be able to explore the campus and see what college life can be like and understand that college is an option for them. UC Merced 5200 Lake Rd. Merced, CA 95343 209-228-4400 Nonprofit Agency: YES: NO: X ANALYSIS Exposing AVID students to authentic college life is critical for two core reasons: demystification and practical skill validation. For many diverse and first-generation scholars, higher education remains and abstract goal. Campus immersion transforms this concept into a tangible, achievable reality. Crucially, this unique opportunity allows students to observe directly how the AVID WICOR skills they practice, are applied in a real academic setting of higher education. This firsthand exposure bridges the gap between theoretical preparation and concrete next steps for making college a reality for our students.
