NEW BUSINESS 1. Introduction and comments from Rep. Michael Gottlieb (District 98) Two new members Maude Bruce and Leticia Achils were introduced. Leticia Achils: I work for Compass Florida as a realtor. I was contacted a few days ago by Councilmember Erik Andersen to represent him on this committee. I am new and open to all help from everyone. I am willing to help and learn. Maude Bruce: I am a registered nurse case manager. I have been a Plantation resident since 1985. I became interested in affordable housing as a nurse in a medical center. Discharged patients had nowhere to go, and with very limited resources they were referred to different group homes and halfway houses. Some of our Plantation residents ended up in group homes, and that is why I am interested in affordable housing. I look forward to working with the committee. Katie Edwards-Walpole: On Zoom, we are very honored to have our State Represenative Michael Gottlieb joining us from Tallahassee. He was elected to the Legislature in 2018, and also chairs the Broward delegation. Affordable housing has been important to him. I wanted to invite him here today to share his thoughts and give us a brief overview of what he thinks is important, and what we should know as we begin our work to make policy recommendations to City Council. So, Representative Gottlieb, welcome and thank you for being here with us today. Michael Gottlieb: Thank you for having me here. I hope I will be able to help you in your mission. Affordable housing has been a priority of mine since joining the Legislature in 2018. Unfortunately, I have not been able to accomplish much on the topic of affordable housing. We will continue our fight and hopefully soon we will be able to make a difference. Although in 2021, the Legislature did enact a measure that says the Sadowski affordable housing funds can no longer be swept. With that in mind, I am happy to answer questions or give an input to your advisory committee as I can. Representative Gottlieb presented an overview of his affordable housing activity and advocacy and discussion ensued with the members of the Committee. 2. Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) Introduction: Statutory Requirements and Process Dan Holmes gave a presentation on statutory requirements and process. Presentation has been added to the record. 2022-02-03 Affordable Housing Presentation.pdf OTHER BUSINESS/DISCUSSIONS Carole Morris: Our next meeting on March 3, 2022, we will hold a public hearing to adopt the 2021 Affordable Housing Advisory Committee Review and Recommendations report.
