What This Bill Proposed
Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, home school students in grades 8 through 12 can voluntarily apply for a social access pass to participate in school-sponsored social activities at one public school in their residency attendance area. Public schools may charge a maximum fee of $25.00 for the pass and cannot impose additional restrictions or limitations beyond those in the statute.
Home school families gain statutory eligibility to access public school dances, arts events, and career fairs for a capped fee, while schools acquire a mandate to accommodate these participants without gaining enrollment funding or regulatory authority over home education.
- Idaho law provides distinct educational frameworks for traditional public schools, public charter schools, and home-based instruction. context
