Limitation on the Assessment of Real Property Used for Residential Purposes
This amendment would authorize the Florida Legislature to pass a law prohibiting residential property tax assessments from accounting for flood-damage improvements (such as elevated structures or reinforced foundations) when calculating the property's taxable value. Property owners who make such improvements would not see their assessed values increase as a result of those specific upgrades.
Abolish the Constitution Revision Commission
This amendment would eliminate the Constitution Revision Commission, a body that convenes every 20 years to propose constitutional amendments or revisions for voter approval. If passed, the Commission scheduled to meet in 2037 would not occur, and this method of submitting comprehensive constitutional changes to Florida voters would no longer be available.
Additional Homestead Property Tax Exemption for Specified Critical Public Service Workers
This amendment would authorize the Florida Legislature to grant an additional homestead property tax exemption of up to $50,000 in assessed value on non-school property tax levies for specified critical public service workers, including classroom teachers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, child welfare professionals, active duty military, and Florida National Guard members. The exemption would reduce the taxable value of homestead property for these workers, thereby lowering their property tax bills on county and municipal levies (but not school district levies).
